2000 Krug Vintage Brut
2000 Krug Vintage Brut
okay... I've just seen 2000 Krug advertised at $260/bottle
The last time I bought some (back in those carefree pre-mortgage, pre-family days of impulse spending) it was the 1998 Vintage and was going for over $500.
what's the catch? I can't imagine that the retailers enjoy a huge markup on Krug, certainly not enough to be putting it out the door at those prices... Heat damaged stock?
cheers,
Tom

Re: 2000 Krug Vintage Brut
2000 isn't a particularly great Champagne vintage, but Krug does what Krug wants, and make vintage wines that suit them, whether the vintage be great or not so great. Consequently the price may be a bit lower than other vintage Krugs coming off awesome vintages with great reputations.
Re: 2000 Krug Vintage Brut
Thommo, I am very tempted too, $1500 for a 6 pack, I am getting emails from the same mob several times a week.
Got one for 2004 Bollinger LGA for a pretty good price, so got those instead.
Cheers

Re: 2000 Krug Vintage Brut
The Bolly is pretty good IMO. I've seen some negative comments on the forum, but for me, they're trending in the right direction with this label. The 2004 is going to drink at its peak a little before the 02 reaches the same. I was fortunate to get some in the UK for circa AUD90 a bottle all in, which I think is a pretty good price. I'd say anything around $150 in Oz is a buy....
I've seen the 2000 Krug email a few times too, and am thinking about it. Its not a bad wine, but I hear it has been slow to move in a few markets including Oz. The 2003 was released before the 2002, and most guys I know in the champagne market are holding back for the release of the latter. Based on the 2002 Salon price, I think the 2002 Krug will be very expensive - I'm hearing £250pb in London, which probably means circa $700 in Aust.

Re: 2000 Krug Vintage Brut
Quite enjoyed the 2000 Krug, but paled compared to the 98 for me, and nowhere near the Tattinger CdC 02 or 04 which I would unswervingly recommend. (Not tried the LGA 04) But if going Krug, I'd rather buy the NV which I heard was around $165 in some places at the moment, and put it away for a few years.
Re: 2000 Krug Vintage Brut
Mike, without offending Gavin, I paid in the order of $165.
Gee it annoys me no end being on this side of the world and LGA is sub one hundred.
I now understand perfectly why you have such extensive champagne purchases...makes sense!!
I would keep buying at those prices...perhaps one day when you are back in Oz there could be a champers offline.
Cheers

Re: 2000 Krug Vintage Brut
There's a special deal going around for NV Krug - two bottles for $330. Almost makes me want to bite. Almost, I'd rather get some '02 Pol Roger for 2/3 the price.

I got the email too, for Australia, those prices are sensational. Some of the wines advertised are cheaper than in HK. If you are a champagne lover, definitely bite, because it is hard to see how you could go wrong. The 2006 Moet is an absolute steal!!!

Well its cheap compared to recent pricing.... but I'm not sold on the champagne itself. Might be time to revisit.

Well sometimes things are cheap for a reason, heat damaged, grey imports etc. Plenty of ways it can go wrong if the stock has not been looked after properly in transit. Worth trying one or two before committing to more. Tough ask I know, but hey...

haha, I agree Mike, not sold on the wine either, but if you like the style, that price is sensational.
