Gosh, I could only justify buying one!

2 x 2010 Penfolds 389
2 x 2010 Penfolds 407

Keen to try one of each young and leave their second for maybe 10 years?

I have heard and read that Mount Ed will just continue to rise in price over coming years due to quality etc. and being such a great year...well, I don't know if that is justification or not??!

Are you buying direct from the winery? Just wondering if there is any discounting at all out there in retail land? Does not appear to be as yet but I am keen to pick up a couple, but can't really stretch the card on the winery prices..

How much were they?

As an aside, I have one 2012 Mt. Edelstone on the way, and may be tempted to get a second. But $140 sheeeeeeesh...

Seen them as low as $110, of course after I bought.

Tyrrells 2009 Vat 47 @ $36pb, thought that was a bargain. Loaded up.

six pack of 2012 Mt Edelstone
2 x 2013 Clonakillia Shiraz Viognier
2 x 2012 Turkey Flat Shiraz
2 x 2012 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz
2 x 2012 Cherubino Frankland River Shiraz
3 x 2013 Best's Bin 1
2 x 2013 Head the Red Shiraz

Late last month picked up a few whites plus

3 x 2012 Best’s Bin 0 Shiraz
2 x 2010 St Hallett Old Block Shiraz
2 x 2009 Voyage Estate Cab Merlot
3 x 2011 Moss Wood Cabernet
2 x 2011 Cullen Diana Madeline

Might pick up a few Bin 389 after thoroughly enjoying a 2004 recently. Have been pretty good last few months and working hard so now that we are coming in to the warmer weather I figured it would be good to buy a few reds, this way they may see the inside of the cellar and actually stay there for a while :)

$99 each... Ouch, I know.. But given the hype and apparent scarcity I was happy to pay to see what the fuss is all about. At least one of them will be put away long term.

They threw in a nice penfolds double box with them.

Very interesting to note the drop all approach to 2012 Mt Edelstone. Has anyone tried it?

I recall similar hype for the 98 Mt Ed from Halliday & co. I returned all my bottles to the winery 5 years ago for refund. Brett levels were getting so bad it needed to be drunk cold!

I'm only bringing this story up as I'm going through the stress myself- should I be buying a few cases? I've been long on Mt Ed since the 80's and they are still going strong; funnily enough Henschke only changed their drinking windows a few years ago to reflect the stunning ability of the wine to age.

Tried it at a tasting yesterday. I actually delayed my order once I found out it would be on tasting. Quite a generous pour (this is what happens when the Henschke rep is late and someone else is pouring :D )

I then confirmed my order.

I didn't take any notes but on the tasting list I tend to either write good value, good, very good or yes. The Edelstone got a straight yes. In a room full of barossa wine it stood out for its elegance but was not shown up much for power (I say much because maybe the Torbreck RunRig pushed it out of the way).

It's October guys, not September! :-)

A mixed case of reds, and the odd Riesling and Marsanne, from Warrabilla Wines in the Rutherglen. Monster wines but strangely balanced... for the most part!

Cheers, Travis.

I finally relented, and went for...

6xFranck Bonville 2008 BdB Champagne

This does seem pretty good value to me, and I should probably have bought 12. Seems to get good write-ups all round...but clearly Mike buying it in volume got me over the line!

I really hope people like the Bonville. It worries me when people spend their hard earned based on my recommendations (though Brad Baker spoke highly of it)......

Oh, sorry Mike, I didn't want to worry you! I'd seen it well reviewed by Gary Walsh and have been on the lookout for a locally imported, good value grower for some time. Add to that 2008 / BdB, and it's right up my street. It's just good to see others, who have tasted widely, buying it.

G'day Gavin

Low Parker score so I reckon I'll like it! Haven't tried yet. I think we started this discussion over dinner recently as to what our leanings were toward CNP. I've been lured by points before but finding I like the lesser vintages.

Jamie, would be very interested in your thoughts re 2011 BP, particularly with your historical Barossa knowledge and robust critique (thats if you choose to open it of course).
I have sent off for a half dozen.

I know its a case of drop everything, but apart from a few cases of Henschke Rieslings over the last couple of vintages, I have not brought a red for a long time.
I could be really tempted by the 2012 Mt Ed, but CD $140 and probably not much less elsewhere, find this a very steep proposition.

Will have to see what the tax return is like.

Cheers Craig

Ha Ha I'm a retro Barossa drinker. Lost on all the new styles and fashions and blue fruit makes me vomit…

Mt Ed is $90 AUD up here and I am tempted. But then I have to get them back to Oz with mules or get a bigger cellar up here as buying Aussie wine for the long term in Hong Kong would be big shift in strategy for me!
