Yes I did try.
From memory it had a little bit of Sauv Blanc about it but it was just dry and non sweet enough to keep my interest.
It's a 'nice' wine with cellaring potential but I'd be more inclined to drink it now or quite soon.
Like most Grosset wines it had great balance and there was enough acid in it to warrant a purchase.
I must say though i was disappointed in the 2011 Gaia. Really green nose and lacking body and substance for me.
The 2010 Gaia leaves it for dust.
I'm still a total sucker for the Grosset Piccadilly Chardonnay.
I have stash of these so didn't buy anymore but I still tasted it and it's just a wow wine for me.
It's just so balanced and everything is in order for my palate.

I think its a Fiano Semillon blend? I bought 1 bottle as a curiosity. I might just cellar it for a couple of years and see what happens. I was surprised by a couple of Coriole Fianos that I picked up from auction for about $7/bttl (i.e. low risk!) with about 4yrs of age on them and they were actually very interesting with that little bit of age.

Interested but not surprised to hear about the 2011 Gaia. I buy it every year, have 6 of the 2010 but contented myself with 3 of the 2011. I do think its a wine which has a tendency to seem "green" if your sensitive to that (I am not particularly sensitive to it, but I know others who would run a mile from a hint of "green")...

Btw, have you tried cellaring the Chardonnay? I have 3 bottles of the 2012 I am unlikely to get around to for a bit, was planning to leave for another couple of years at least. Any views?

That's correct, Fiano Sem blend. I made the comment at the CD that the Apiana smelled a bit 'sauv blanc-ish' and the CD attendant said they'd been getting a bit of that. Again, it was dry and acidic enough to warrant throwing one in the boot of the car. As for the 2011 Gaia, I was so blown away by the 2010 vintage that I guess I was always gonna be a bit disappointed. The 2010 had my attention from the get go. As for the 2011, It wasn't just the green nose, it just seemed to lack substance and balance. I'm sure there's a distinct possibility it will age nicely so I'm happy to stand corrected.

Last year I bought some back vintages from the grosset CD one of which was an 05 piccadilly Chardonnay.
Definitely one of the best Chardonnays I've had. Be keen to see how it stacks up against an 06 Leeuwin Estate art series Chardonnay which I've got in the gun for the next 'nice' night out with the boss.

My first taste of them also.. on a colleague’s recommendation. If I remember, I’ll be sure to report once it’s cracked open.

Still relatively new to the game.. trying to make a habit of jagging a bottle of something previously recommended when the opportunity arises. Helps supplement the slowly growing stockpile of what I know I enjoy!

They'll go 10 years if we'll cellared. I'm drinking my way through my first 6 pack of the 2002, and its in a good place right now. That said, the 2008 is a better wine, and will continue to get better.
