September Wine Acquisitions 2014

Post by TravisW »

2 x Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2013. A stonking vintage but at $90 a pop, I could only justify 2. Plenty more 2013 goodies to come out of the Canberra area soon. :P

Cheers, Travis.

Grabbed some of this too. What do you reckon of the riesling at the stated release price? Given I can recall paying $20 a bottle it's starting to get up there.

Cheers

Just got a bit of wine delivered / ordered:

3 x Cullens Diana Mad 2012
3 x Cullens Cab Merlot 2012
3 x Wendouree Shiraz Mataro 2012
2 x Penfolds St Henri 2008
1 x Penfolds Magill 1984
2 x Lindemans St George 1986
1 x Lindemans St George 1990
1 x Wynns John Riddoch 1984

I have a wine buying buddy. We both have similar palates and trust what the other buys, so we go halves in almost all we buy.
I appreciate all forms of alcohol, as long as its wine.

Hi Matt,

It's the first time for a while that I haven't grabbed any Riesling. I've come to realise that my palate just doesn't like Canberra Riesling as much as it like Riesling from Clare, Eden Valley, Southern WA, Tas, Germany and Austria. I feel like a traitor!

Cheers, Travis.

Make sure you get some of the 2013 Bin 1 which was released last week. It's much better than the 2012.

Just added, via the auction house another five bottles of the 2004 Wolf Blass White Label Aged Release Chardonnay . I bought a few bottles a couple of weeks back on a hunch, based mainly on it being Piccadilly Valley fruit, and have been amply rewarded. This wine is beautifully balanced with great length and will continue to age gracefully for some time to come.

I'll be interested to read your thoughts on the Selosses, as I'm in the minority and don't really 'get' the hype. That said, none of the oxidative Champagnes are really my preference.

Hi Mike,
I do like them, especially the Initial, very good value (if you have connections  ) Not so sure about the Lieu-dits value wise. The flavour spectrum compared to most other champagnes just elevates them to a much higher plane to me. A beautiful broad spectrum of fruit and admittedly oxidative character does it for me. Most other champers are plainly just boring - thin and acidic.

Thanks Hacker. I haven't had all the lieu dits, primarily due to price.

Actually, I just rang the guy up, admittedly 10 years ago and must have found him in an agreeable mood. Got an allocation from then on.

Oh, and 12 x Woodlands Margaret Cab Merlot.
