Southern WA Highlights

Post by Dave Dewhurst »

A long weekend down in Denmark with a bunch of wineries visited, including Dukes, Castle Rock, Gilberts, Poacher's Ridge, Castelli, Singlefile, Harewood, Rockcliffe and Willoughby Park. Highlights of the trip were:

Dukes: 2014 Magpie Hill riesling just stunning, so zippy, it made my mouth water!

Castelli: 2012 Tempranillo, a really good solid mouthful of a wine, plenty of tannins and fruit depth.

Singlefile: very good Porungorup riesling; 2011 Run Free The Duo Cabernet Merlot is a bargain at $20 and the 2013 Frankland River shiraz was just a stunner.

Harewood: three great rieslings from 2014 from Mount Barker, Porungorup and Frankland; the $20 2012 shiraz another screaming bargain for the depth of fruit and structure and the 2010 Reserve shiraz was mind-blowingly good.

Top tips: Dukes Magpie Riesling and Harewood Reserve Shiraz

Cheers

Castle Rock and Gilberts are also good choices, especially for Riesling
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Yup, true enough, although to be honest, there were great Rieslings at almost all these wineries. Totally spoilt for choice! 8)
