Would love to know what the Best's pinot meunier is like. Be interested to see how it ages as the '12 was pretty special.
The Bests Old Vine Pinot Meunier is one of my favourite wines. I just love the style. It's "pinot-ish" but much better. And the history behind it is worth a read if you're not familiar with it. So far, I've only had the '11 and '12 vintages. I've read good things about how well they age, so when an opportunity came up to purchase some I couldn't pass (more about this in my next post).

I contacted Bests regarding purchasing some birth year Bin 0 for my kids (2007 and 2009). Then I thought it'd be nice to try a 20+ year old Bin 0 now so I can get an idea of what to expect in 20 years. So I asked them about back vintages and was presented with a nice list to choose from. And considering all their back vintages have been properly stored in their underground cellar all this time, there's no question of provenance. I'm a Magnum club member at Bests so I'm not sure if the back vintages are available to non-members.
With half the cellar sold or sent off to auction, flushed with $$$, topped up the cellar with the following
6x 2012 Hentley Farm H Block Shiraz/Cab 10x 2011 Xanadu Stevens Rd Cab (did well to snap them up before they all disapeared in a flash) And waiting on 18x various 2012 wndourees to arrive
wow!!! $212????? are you kidding? does this include buyer's premium?? tried a bottle a couple of weeks ago, pretty good, but no-where near the level of the 10 Moss Wood or 12 Cullen. unlike the ANZACs, me thinks age has certainly wearied old James His scores are becoming a bit of a joke. I have a six pack, given he rates it 100 points, I wonder if he would consider swapping my six pack for a six pack of 2010 Ausone, which only scored 99. I am willing to accept the mis-match, as I already have enough WA cabs.

Had the 2000 Jack Mann two years ago, a really good wine, with plenty in the tank. I suspect you'll be very happy with it. Scored 91 Wheelers, which is roughly equivalent to 95 Hallidays. (or 97 Hallidays if scored today).

actually, as you seem to be serious, 6 bottles of that stuff will get you about 170mls of 2010 Ausone

While at Rockford managed to also score a taste of the 1994 Black Sparling from magnum, 2005 RR Cabernet and the 1992 BP Shiraz. The latter was a beautiful surprise, great tannin structure, a long, long finish and still a kiss of fruit which should see it go for a few more years yet. In a great place now for a so-so vintage. The 1994 Black was sensational. Considering Rockford tend to advertise to drink this earlier than latter, I think this wine shows better with at least 10 years bottle age (as long as the cork doesn't fail!). This was an excellent example of aged Barossa sparkling shiraz. Wish I could have taken a bottle home!
Fwiw I had the 92 Black Shiraz there a couple of years ago, nice wines and great fun to drink but both mags had past their prime, that 92 BP sounds right in its window however.

Sorry about the '92 Black! They are very good when on song.
In regards to SoE, first time for me tasting these wines so cannot compare them to previous vintages (could not believe they have been around since 2002!!). Anyway, both the Remus and Romulus were very good wines. However, the Remus was my favourite, elegant Eden valley fruit ... like drinking silk ... but still has that balance of power just under the surface. Beautiful. The Romulus was also very good, but I have too many big Barossa shiraz's in my cellar already. The Remus was a nice change.

Hey Travis, Bumped into Bryan Martin at the Rootstock event earlier in the year at Carriageworks (Sydney). Knowing of his Clonakilla exploits we had a good chat to him about his own label. All wines of his were very approachable and had great structure and beautifully integrated tannin - had the Sangiovese last week at another event and it was drinking superbly. I had been meaning to get some and Gavin had stock at excellent prices, so jumped in.
Cloudburst was at Rootstock also, I hadn't heard of them at that point in time, so missed them, and it seemed people were giving it a wide berth. Would be great to go back in time and have a crack at the lauded Cab that they produce.
