Sydney offline Shiraz Syrah Tasting. 25th of July

Hello Guys, My name is Michael. I have really gotten into wine since I drank 2003 Jean Luc Colombo Cornas Les Ruchets.
I thought since we all love our shiraz, I thought we can have a night comparing old world syrah vs new world shiraz. I am free any fridays. I am thinking of July 25th Friday at 6:30pm. I will bring 2 decent bottle for this tasting event. Anyone is welcome regardless of their age and gender of course.

I have been to this Thai restaurant in Chatswood Concourse. We can have a very nice meal for less than 30 dollar each. It is called good thai.

Dont make me go there by myself and get pissed.
And burges, no I will not bring Grange 1998, I sold them all

Goodluck on him to rip out all the shiraz vines in Australia let alone in the world ( We all know it is most planted grape variety in oz)

If you live in Australia and don't like shiraz than, you don't know what you are missing out.

As for me I love all types of red wine. It is really impossible to pick one grapes over another as there are so much diversity in each grapes.

I thought it would be good idea to try shiraz vs syrah. Some sort of theme.
You are welcome to bring other grape variety if you really cannot tolerate shiraz or syrah whatever you want to call it:)
Also if you want, we can change the theme for you to suit whatever you want to go ahead with.

Are you genuinely interested in coming to the tasting or just having a go at me Michael?

I love Cote Rotie too. Have you tried Domaine Jamet Cote Rotie?
It was about 50 dollar australian in uk for 2003 vintage. I think it is over 100 dollar here. Fantastic producer.
I stick to St Joseph nowadays. And that is a special ocassion wine. Cannot afford anything north of that:(

which aus wines do you rate in a cote rotie 'style'?

I did enjoy Clonakilla, Giaconda, Seppelts, but they were more closely styled to cornas and hermitage for me dispite the viognier content in Clonakilla.
I have yet to find similar styled oz wine to cote rotie. The elegance, low alcohol level, perfumed, earthy, mineral character of the traditional cote rotie I really adore.

What do you think out of Oz wines, most reminiscent to Cote rotie Michel?

My cellar at new place is looking good. Underground and no sunlight exposure what so ever and fairly cool even in summer.
I am hoping to make it half nice as your cellar Burges if possible Might take forever
If Kate middleton is pulling out the shiraz vines, I don't mind giving her a hand but probably not john middleton

2012 Standish SHiraz v 2010 Hentley Farm Clos Otto, can go wrong there, count me in for the 25th as well. Would have liked to bring the Sine Qua Non Raven No.5, but seeing as its gonna be a Thai place, maybe a big bold Barossa Shiraz would be more the go, no shortage of them bad boys in my cellar.

You are kidding right? That is like saying French food is rubbish. Well Australian shiraz grapes come from Old World, both from France and Spain.
Both Australia and France make world class Shiraz or Syrah whatever you want to call it. PERIOD

Hi Hacker,
It would be great to host some French wine event at the Cafe Lyon in the future. I would have loved to bring some of my french collection to the house. ( believe me not many collections but few good ones) I would have came to the tastings in the past but Every thursday I am working in the evening I remember taking my wife to this little French restaurant in Earl's court (London), even now I have wonderful memories from there. Of course also in Paris.
Burges can perhaps bring Shiraz, I can never say no to Shiraz especially from his fantastic collections

Whoa, Hi Vinh, That is some great wines you have mentioned. Sine Qua Non, I never tried any of the wines. I heard they are Magical. Raven No 5 is not cheap either. Infact I don't remember having any good wines from Califonia let alone USA. ( cristom Pinot noir Oregon was sensational from memory, cannot remember which vintage of which range pinot it was) I have tried few of Standish wines and met the man in the Artisan Tasting hosted by wine culture sometime back. Needless to say they are superb. Never tried Clos Otto, but tried The Beauty Shiraz. Again very nice. Burges won't have any problem matching these as he got some quality Bad Boys. Let us know what you are bringing and we will try to match the Calibre

I think it is better to keep Theme flexible so people have all sort of choice when selecting wines for this tasting event. Shiraz and Syrah friendly tasting sounds best.

Anyways..am I the only one that doesn't think Thai Food and a big bold red match? To me the tannins and alcohol don't go with it but anyways..I'm there for the wine not the food so anything is really fine with me (Pizza, chips, whatever).

Hmm I don't think he would take offence. We are kind of brothers, I am not too far from his beautiful land.
Those asians are so lame in the clip. Very very strange clip, certainly have not met any asians acting like that. Seen some act very very tiny little bit similar but that is way too extreme. None of My family and friends act like that. Abit of joke really but thanks for the clip. It is sad to see that's how people view asians in general and how they are mannered. Regardless LOFLMAO
Alots of people think thai does not go with strong red, infact I had so much thai food with All sort of red wine and it really comliments each other as long as cook don't put too much chilly. So many thai restaurants, they put so much suger these days. Good Thai thankfully does not do that.

It goes with some things...like some of the meats in Korean BBQ (I'm not sure how we got on this subject since I was just using it as an example..and I'm not Korean. I'm not actually asking you if you're Korean and like Korean food).... Big Bold reds don't go with a lot of other things...like Soon Tofu, Kimchi Stew, etc. Beer and Soju are both better with Korean food in general. Even with Korean BBQ, you have chili sauce and Kimchi and other spicy things...or even spicy pork, etc...

I'm not saying I want Pizza and Chips..but that I'd be ok with that because the food is really secondary for me...although a lot of people want good food..I want good food to but really if someone wanted to do an offline with Pizza I'd be ok with that as well.
