Next Sydney Offline July 17 @ Cafe Lyon

Post by Hacker »

At our recent Rockford Offline we discussed a possible theme for the next get together and came up with an idea that might coax out some newer people as well as us *old farts*. So the theme is -Something you are keen on and want to show off - that covers a wide range, from Grange (hoping...hoping...) to any treasure lurking in your cellar of any value.

I have given a choice of dates; but why don't we say the 17th July unless it is a problem for too many then we can switch. As for venue I am in your collective hands. Suggestions please. It just has to be vaguely central and/or near transport and of course BYO with fair corkage. Great food would help.

It doesn't matter how many we have - we can have two tables if it proves popular, lets hope so :D So come on, you guys that have wanted to come to an offline but just haven't done so yet, now's the time!!

Just register below and if you know what bottle you want to bring let us know as well.

And venue thoughts.

Cheers all,
David M.

17th is OK for me, but would prefer 10th or 16th if there was a second choice. (not 24th as will be in Vic.) Anywhere close to a train is good for me. Happy with Rocket or Cafe Lyon again.

Can we ban anyone from bringing a NZ Sav Blanc. I've had enough sunshine for now. :D

Dont worry Tim, I will have a crate of Savvy B flown in for you... no need to fear that you will run out.

Hey guys

The week of the 14th of July is presently no good for me. Anytime the week before, or the 24th or 25th the following week, would be good.

What about Bistrode? I haven't been but hear it is pretty decent, and they offer BYO at dinner time. Downside is a limited menu for groups of 10+

Early in the piece and I may not be able to make it, but I would be thinking of bringing a 1998 Wendouree Cabernet Malbec (have only had one, fairly recently, but found it to be a very fascinating wine) or otherwise I will have to have a dig around, not a huge amount of show off wine in the cellar yet regrettably :(

No objection to Wendouree, would love to try that. Might bring Wendouree too, but heaps of other early 2000 goodies in cellar.
I think Rocket is very good for transport, service, food, private room..... would prefer Thursday or Friday night,
Tim, I'll bring you a really good SB that you'll love, promise

Rocket does tick all the boxes.

I picked that week (the 17th) as it isn't in school holidays and I guessed might suit more people than the previous week.

I’m in.
Rocket of course is tried and tested, and by the sounds of it Cafe Lyon seems just as good – and fairly well located. I’ve never been there and wouldn’t mind trying it.

I’ve (grudgingly) started subscribing to the ufo paradigm of the quality of 6am starts being inversely proportional to the quality of wines the night before.
So while I’m OK for the 17th or the 24th, is Friday night an option?

Friday is fine, and is fine for Rocket, but cuts out Cafe Lyon. Friday 18th?

I have a drinkable Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2003 I can bring along. 24th works well for me. or 18th, or the Friday.

Got a RareWineDinner on the 18th, so can't make it... Fri 11th would be ideal, but suggesting additional dates gets crazy, there's always people who can;t make it. Suggest we look at sticking to the original Thurs 17th date? I prefer Cafe Lyon over Rocket personally, but very happy with either.

It is difficult to keep everyone happy, sorry to those who may not be able to make it, but we'll go with a specific date - Thursday 17th July - at Cafe Lyon, only because 3 courses for $65 is great value and the food is superb. I know with add ons like corkage and sides it is a bit more, but they can put us upstairs and can cater for potentially two tables as well. Hope this meets with most peoples preferences

I'm bringing a Wynns 1991 Centenary Shiraz/Cabernet Blend - the gold label one.

For those that can only make Fridays or Saturdays...It would be easy enough to plan another offline on a Friday or Saturday...I'm sure there plenty of people in the same situation...There are probably 30 or so Sydney members that have attended offlines in the last two years so a pretty good population and I'm sure there are some that can't go just because of the day.

I am free any Fridays.
Looks like it has been western cousine for last few Tasting event.
Why don't we try something different and have a good meal without spending too much money.
There is a Thai Restaurant Called Good Thai at the Chatswood Concourse.
I recently went there with a friend of mine and we each had a entree and a main plus corcage and it was only 27 dollar per person and Ambience was great also.
Food was delicious and quite authentic. ( I eat thai often and can tell if they are decent)
If everyone is happy, I can make a reservation for the required number of people attending!

Well I think it would be best to start another thread on that...Sorry, I should have mentioned that in the previous post..

There is really nothing stopping other people from organizing their own offline...

I'm interested in coming, David, I only have replied yet because only about 80% sure whether I can make it. :) I didn't want to say I could and then pull out again!

Should be able to solidify that come July.

I'm in for the 17th. Happy to nominate or not nominate wines, I like a few surprises! Either way, I'm looking forward to it! Great way to kick off my birthday #weekoftim.
