Brisbane Offline - Sprout - Saturday 21 June

Post by Michael McNally »

Dear Brisbane Forumites

Been a while. Time for an offline. I am suggesting Saturday 17 May or Friday/Saturday 23/24 May.

Suggestions for venues/themes welcome.

New forumites welcome - we don't bite (well Ian does sometimes......)

Cheers

Michael

Friday 23rd works for me.

Be great to catch up again. Any theme will do!

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Any date But the 23rd is do-able. 24th is fine...
I'm happy with any of the usual venues. Dear duck, Brent's (which has had a referb on the decor. same chef etc, so menu will be fantastic) or Sprout was very good and a little more casual than the other two.
Thoughts on the theme?

definitely up for an offline, however May has become booked out and I only have a short break from work. 23rd is the only realistic date for me, fully understand if it does not work for everyone and another date has to be chosen for the majority. I always like the classification themes and am keen for another. cheers Gerry

I am afraid I now cannot make the 23rd. With only 2 weeks off from work it has just become a bit tight with family commitments. Have a great offline, hopefully the dates will work out for the next one. Cheers Gerry

That's a pity. Let us know when you are back next time gpk.

Okay, so if Gerry is out, and Rens can't make the 23rd, can everyone else make 17th or 24?

Please feel free to express a preference, but let us know you actually cannot make the other date.

Cheers

Just when I thought I would miss out :D
I'm available for both the 17th and 24th.
I am happy with any of the venues, but deer duck or sprout are probably better for public transport.

Looks like not a lot of our regulars can make the same days, and no new folks have piped up.

Might try again in a month or so. Maybe with a bit more notice we can get a crew together?

Hi guys
I'll be down in Brisbane on the 20, 21 and 22nd July if anyone wants to get together then. Think we should have a Penfold icon nite given all the latest hype. I'll volunteer to bring along a 2010 St Henri if it happens!

Cheers

Sounds good to me!

I am good on the 7th or 14th of June, also school nights don't bother me too much so all good. As far as venues goes I don't know how accessible Sunnybank is for everyone but there is a restaurant there called Suncrop which is fantastic for wine tastings. I know the owner so he looks after us incredibly. The cool thing is that they have Riedels (cabs, shiraz,Riesling,Montrachet,Pinot etc...) and if we are tasting wines side by side we can have multiple glasses of the same varietal. Oh and the food is pretty amazing too!

Let me know what you think!

Was hoping for the 21st. Kellee has it off at the moment, so it would be nice to bring her along.
Theme: I do not mind. I normally can fit with most themes, unless it is French.
Sunnybank is ok for me, or Sprout was real good last time.
What are your thoughts Ian and Michael?

21st June works for me too Rens. I'm happy to go with the majority for the venue. The food at Sprout was pretty good last time but the glassware was a tad ordinary from memory (plus it's handy to my sisters at Sinnamon Park). Any other ideas.

Any ideas for theme? Anything but Pinot for me

How about a Cabernet, East vs West theme. Something east coast v something west coast.
Draw a line north to south through Uluru and everything to the left is west and right is east :D .
May not go with the Sunnybank Chinese, but would be great with a steak-I wonder if Brent's has their beef cheeks on the menu??
Just a thought

Something has come up for the 14th so 21st would be perfect.

The guys have a quite a few dishes that goes really well with a full bodied wines, Sizzling lamb blackstrap, steak and asparagus... All really good quality produce and their wine service is crazy good. This is not your usual Sunnybank fare.

This is my first offline and Cabernet would work a treat... Should we do some whites too? Is it normally 1 bottle each?

Looking forward to it!

Hi Cesar

I've had a look at the public transport options for Sunnybank and pretty much everything means a trip into the city and then back out so I would also prefer something a bit handier. Brent's or Sprout work fine for me.

On wines, if we do an east v west theme, then Riesling probably works as a white as there are some top examples from each.

People generally bring a bottle per person and a backup (the backups sometimes get drunk regardless.........)

Any other lurkers out there keen to join us on the 21st??

Cheers
