I have gone at easter the last three years and been able to buy it... I think they are released some time in March.

Depends on the amount made, the amount taken by members and the few retailers and restaurants that stock the stuff. There should be plenty of '09 though, as it was a reasonable vintage, yield wise for Barossa shiraz. Plus the fact that Stonewallers got a full 6 bottle allocation.

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

They also sell 5 year old Magnums in August. I bought a 2006 when I was there last year.

Yeah, I have that fridge magnet too. But when I cook I mostly put a bit in the food. Well, not for breakfast/brunch when I'm still a bit........coffee time!

Hi all,
Am trying to plan a Barossa trip for the 2nd half of this year.
Does anyone know when (or if) the 2012 Basket Press is released?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Diddy just in from a large 5 course dinner and way too much grog....will roll into Langtons 6th tomorrow.
2012 BP October 2015 for stonewallers , march 2016 for general public.
i think that is right that October 2014 is the 2011 BP
Cheers Craig.
Tomorrow will be a good day

Thanks Craig! I didn't realise they were doing a 2011 - I remember reading somewhere that they re-released extra 2010.
Might have to revisit them again in 2016!

I believe they re-released the 2010 BP so as to give themselves an extra year in the bottle for subsequent vintages.

I was under the impression that they used to sell out of the Basket Press quite quickly. To be able to re-release a vintage to the general public implies that they held back a considerable amount of wine.

The explanation from Rockford was that a lot of excellent grapes from the 2010 vintage went begging from their usual grape growers because super premium Aussie wine sales overseas plummeted in the immediate aftermath of the GFC. That meant they could buy up twice the amount of grapes as usual without diluting the quality of the Basket Press and therefore release it two years running, so that subsequent releases could be held back for a further year. Haven't tried mine yet but the reviews were fairly glowing on average, so I'm prepared to accept their explanation.

Does this mean that Rockford will continue to buy those grapes and increase the volume of BP into the future, or was it just one off?

I'd be very surprised if that was the case with the 2011. I'd hope they were fairly picky with their grape selection rather than trying to make lots of wine from ordinary grapes. No point in damaging their reputation for a quick buck.
2012 on the other hand may be the same as 2010. Supposedly superb vintage with reasonable yields.
I know they need to make money but there is a lot of 2010 floating around all over the place and it takes away from the exclusivity that the Stonewallers (read loyal customers) enjoy. I suppose that we do get first crack at it though. But plenty of the general public must be just flicking it on to auction as I've never seen so much current release being sold.
Cheers

Re: Rockford - BP sales to plebs at cellar door
I went and bought some 2010 BP from the CD three weeks ago. As a fledgling member I called ahead and asked about the availability of it and the CD attendant advised me that they had enough BP to last them thru until the easter break (give or take) and that would be it.

Re: Rockford - BP sales to plebs at cellar door
Update, had dinner with the rockford gang last night, lucky with the 2011 BP, they had many many vineyards to choose from.
Will be a smaller release in October 2014, but quality will be there.
Cheers craig.
