Melbourne Visit.. Offline 23rd May ?

Post by markg »

I will be Melbourne on Friday the 23rd May (planning in advance this time)..

Anybody up for an offline ? I hear you Vics like a drink or two .. (although considering how watery the beer is, its probably three or four :))

Put me down as a tentative x 2...it's high time I came out of the closet and started attending some of these things.

Any thoughts on Venue's ?...somewhere in or close to the CBD preferred.....

barney, you don't happen to sing in a band called Thirsty Merc. Assuming that's you in your avatar?

Count me in +1 for now!
Previous recent offlines have been at the moat (organised by softie) which have been excellent.

Well that will be right in the middle of Good Beer Week in Melbourne and I will be at GABS (the Great Australian Beer Spectapular) where some of the beers may get up to around wine levels :D

Of course! Good choice. He's rocking an awesome Mo too.

So I'm guessing mark's supplying the SA wines? Haha

Should we do one wine from SA and one from Vic for each major variety or would that be a bit drawn out?

The weather sure has improved, Mark !!
We had more days below 46 Celsius than Adelaide this year.

Possible BYO venues....inner northern biased based on my geographic history..

Abla's in Carlton...great lebanese, not so great glassware.

Paris Go Carlton...bistro french, okay glassware, is BYO but not proacatively so, will open the bottles and thats about it.

La luna in North Fitzroy,,Modern Med, great glassware, will provide multiple glasses decant and clean up during proceedings. Have had a few wine nights here and always good.

As an expat Sth Aust I am sure I can contribute to the SA content :D :D

Went to Paris Go recently, was quite impressed, more so than many times in the past. Also went to Matteo's a week ago, absolutely superb, may not be relaxed enough for our purposes. Moretons is always an option.

Vic VS SA.....good for me born and bred Vic so have some resonable stock....

Agree Matteos might be a bit swish....especially given how these wine dinners can become a little bit noisy, Mortons is a yes for me to in addition to my other suggestion...

Trying to figure out the best way of getting my wine over. Ideally somewhere close to the venue. I have friends who would happily receive the wine for me (and probably drink it if I am not careful).. which would be the closest to the restaurant ?

North Melbourne or Port Melbourne ?
Cheers

Most of the venues mentioned would be closer to North Melbourne.
