Penfolds Grange wanted only clinic passed bottles.

Im looking for the below penfolds grange that has been to the penfolds clinic, below are the years im after:

1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965
1971, 1976
1991, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999
2004, 2005, 2006

And the previous 4 are too young too.
If you have Grange at 20 years with the need to go to a clinic then I think that would be TWE's problem with crappy corks.
20 year old Grange if stored properly since release should be pristine (in appearance anyway).

Wine boy for for the earlier ones, join the queue at Langtons, thats the only way you are going to get them...sounds to me like you are 3 decades late.

Just a bit of clarification if that's OK...

Wines need to be 15 years old to attend a clinic which means 1999 this year.

We see plenty come through between 15 & 20 years of age that need a bit of attention, and for those that do, the vast majority are due to less than ideal storage conditions since purchase.

Out of curiosity, if I was to purchase a bottle of say 30y.o. grange and take it to a clinic without knowledge of its history (other than being told its been cellared well) what does the clinic cost and include?

Also, if the wine is found to be bad, am I out of luck or is there any replacement service?

Asking as a pure hypothetical, I'd like to get a bottle fromy birth year (1980) for my 35th or 40th depending on how well it would keep but I've never had a grange nor gone to said clinic, so its quite foreign to me.

No cost. If its no good, you're out of luck so to speak. I took a 1980 to the clinic last year and it 'just passed.'

If the wine is 'below standard', I believe they just put a plain cork back in and tell you to either put it down the sink or drink up ASAP.

If the wine is good, they top up with current vintage Grange, recork and re-capsule with proper Penfolds branded stuff and put the sticker on signed by a winemaker.

But what do they do if a wine is TCA affected I wonder? Since that is not down to storage or cellaring, but a fault of the bottling with cork process, I assume they will replace it, but likely with a current vintage? Sparky?

And clinics are only held every second year I believe.

Corked is corked is corked regardless of where it shows up, so yes, any TCA affected bottles will be replaced with current vintage and generally something else to recognise the cellaring time invested.

Australian Clinic dates have been finalised but locations are not confirmed and booking won't open for a while yet. Here's a heads up on the dates for those that would like to bring a bottle or many along:

Brisbane: 5th & 6th of August
Sydney: 19th-21st August
Melb: 2nd-4th September
Adelaide: 17th & 18th September
Perth: 1st & 2nd October

I'll re-post all the details when bookings are about to open but happy to answer any questions prior.

Yeah ive got some to take to the clinic this year....71, 76, 96, 98.
Hopefullyyyy the 71 and 76 pass with flying colours but if not the drain will be getting a mouth full lol
