February Purchases

Post by maybs »

So with a few cheques coming in at work and the confirmation that I can't fit in a decent size cabinet at home (bit bummed but on the plus side just saved a few grand there) and will be storing offsite (bloody Rozelle have no small storage left so will have to go with Camperdown) I went a bit crazy this month....

5 x 2006 Bests Bin 0 Great Western Shiraz

3 x 2004 D'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz

6 x 1997 Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz

6 x 2002 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz

2 x 2010 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay

2 x 1998 Wendouree Cabernet Malbec

4 x 2006 Wendouree Cabernet Sauvignon

3 x 2010 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz

3 x 2011 By Farr Farrside Pinot Noir

3 x 2010 Juniper Estate Can Sauvignon

3 x 2010 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay

3 x 2010 Moss Wood Cab Sauvignon

3 x 2012 Shaw and Smith M3 Chardonnay

I suspect the 1997 Dalwhinnie Shiraz is past/at/nearly at its tipping point, but this is a wine I really like and I am familiar with more recent vintages, so I thought getting an older one (at a decent price) would be a good experiment for testing my palate. Anyone have any experience with this wine recently as to how it should be drinking?

With a username like 'may bs' everything is open to doubt. If this was Reddit a lynch mob would already be forming requiring photographic proof
But I'm betting it's just not good fishing weather so Scott spent his dough on the next best thing.

Maybs, nice coincidence, I am having a 1997 Dalwhinnie this Saturday.

Brought a case of these on release, have not had one since 2000...could all be shot......will endeavour to post a note.
Just hope its better than the 97 JH Georgia"s and Emily that I had recently...like port absolutely stewed hot and over ripe...yuk

Cheers
Craig.
Tomorrow will be a good day

Haha there is no doubt the credit card feels a bit abused at times when I am in the mood. Tricky is actually pretty close my fishing adventures are restricted this year to a few modest trips so may as well spend the money getting the cellar up and running.

May bs haha I get accused of that a bit but it's actually just a derivative of my last name. Certainly my wife would say it is fitting :). Happy to post photos of the empty bottles after they are drunk :P

Be interested to hear what you have to say about the Dalwhinnie Craig.

Only a few modest trips this year? Surely you don't mean no GTs?

Also, crack open one of those Wendouree Cab-Malbec's now and see how it is. The '97 is ready to go now, I'm glad I didn't leave it in the cellar any longer for fear of the fruit fading into the background.

Will do Alex, if it's drinking really well now I'll probably knock both of them off. You know, just for confirmation :)

You clearly love these wines Rens. We will have to have an International(e) night so you can show one off. Not sure I have much in the International section though......

Yes, I have taken a bit of a shine to this producer and Rioja in general. There are some nice wines at pretty good prices coming out of Spain. Always happy to share:Rioja and tapas night anyone? :D

Sounds like a plan Rens. Just need to find a Tapas place that will let us BYO! I might have to have a look at those wines as well.

The Pinot rampage continues...

6xThe Wanderer Upper Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2012

The 2011 of this was by far my favourite Pinot of the vintage (admittedly a significantly inferior vintage to those either side) so I am hoping for big things from the 2012.

And on the recommendation of a Pommy mate: Waaaaaaaay to much of La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva '904' 2001.

I hope it's good. If not, then into the SodaStream it will go.

Cheers, Travis.

Agree wholeheartedly. Had it at a Penfolds ROP tasting in London and preferred it to the others on offer.

You know I like these, but when someone with a decent palate who is a very good QPR buyer is prepared to take some home, I know I'm on the right track. :D
