1990 Penfolds Clare Estate, Clare Valley (cork): 12.5% alc. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec & Cabernet Franc from the Clare Estate Vineyard at Polish Hill, matured 12 months in new French oak barrels. Medium garnet with a bricking rim. Subtle but perfumed nose, cedar, dried herbs, orange peel, some chocolate and violets, becoming meaty/soupy, some black tea with more breathing; the palate's medium-weight and chewy with bright, tangy cherries mid-palate, some orange peel, black liquorice and espresso, finishing long but also bitter with chalky, green tea tannins sticking out on the end. Past its best but still quite drinkable, enjoyable, and very interesting.

Fantastic Ian. I remember missing out on this one but "that" much. I am really glad you have enjoyed it and it is drinkable. It is the gamble we all take. Seasons greetings. Chris
