I just posted a tasting note including the 2005 of this wine and based on that (and assuming this is from the web offer I suspect I also saw with "mystery" magnums) ... then I think you have got a very nice little deal here.... The 2005 was fantastic, still very very fresh.

Levels are all base of neck, labels and capsules are in good nick and only $10 more than the price of the "failed" 2011 current release.

Gotta love market forces

Cheers Craig

I don't like this wine these days. Alcohol is sticking out like dogs balls. Much prefer the '88.

I got a couple of NV Krug, but are thinking of buying a vintage edition.
I believe that 96, 98 and 2000 are available here in Australia (not 100% on that) and have also seen some 90s Clos de mensil but four figures is not my deal.
Your 1996 DP O's for $550ish here in OZ don't seem so bad...can't believe I actually just said that!

So if i was to get a bottle of vintage Krug to drink in the next 6 months or so...any suggestions?

Cheers Craig.

ps. or should I just get a Bolly RD. I have had a few over the years and just love 'em ...... NO

'96 Krug all day long .... prices are coming back all the time on this ... was $500 early on ....
much cheaper if you're careful these days.
Cheers,

David

Good to hear - its a fantastic wine. That said, a big portion of the older champagne I've bought at retail clearly hasn't been stored well, and champagne really needs perfect storage to drink at its optimum (OTOH, I've treated some reds poorly and at 15 years of age they've been fantastic). If the provenance is good and the price is also, back up the truck....

6 x Krug MV (I really like the current 'release')

And I plan to buy some Rockfords as well.

On reflection I've been quite active with my purchases this month; no doubt an emotional coping mechanism to help deal with a serious family illness...

1 x 2010 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz

1x Grosset Polish Hill 2013
1x Grosset Springvale 2013
1x Grosset SSB 2013
1x Grosset Alea 2013
1x Grosset Gaia 2009

I will be committing infanticide to all of them, so notes will follow over the next few weeks.

Bizarrely, the Gaia is about 17% cheaper here than when I last bought some on release from the mailing list, while the Polish Hill Riesling is about 20% MORE expensive than in Oz... I would ask why but then I saw JH gave it 98pts ... Ah, so it all becomes clear... But i still wanted to try one so bugger it.

Let's see...

6 X 2012 Peter Lauer Ayler Riesling 'Fass 25' Trocken
6 X 2012 Peter Lauer Ayler Kupp Riesling Fass 6 "Senior"
Mixed dozen of the Cuvee des Copains CdRs.
1 x 2011 Clos De la Roilette Fleurie Tardive (Magnum)
1 X 2010 Domaine Galevan Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Magnum)
6 X 2013 Pikes Riesling

Doing my best to steer clear of champagne in general and the Marius offer - I promised myself that I'd be strong...

Need your help with a final purchase for the month.

Have a budget of $250 and looking for an iconic red or two.

Am thinking of two from:-

Best's Thomson Family
Wynns John Riddoch
Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier
Cullen Diana

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks in advance.

I just posted a tasting note including the 2005 of this wine and based on that (and assuming this is from the web offer I suspect I also saw with "mystery" magnums) ... then I think you have got a very nice little deal here.... The 2005 was fantastic, still very very fresh.

I cant find your tasting note on the 2005 anywhere?

It's in this thread by sjw_11:

It's lited under "private garden", I assume Sam meant the private cellar and not the old garden Mourvèdre.

Also, not sure if you interested but the offline in Sydney which is happening soon, I think Vinh is bringing the 2010 magnum. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for their thoughts on it.

No Piccadilly Chardonnay? Had an 05 a few months back. Nabbed one of the last remaining from the CD.
JG Chardonnay right up there as the best I've ever had. Got a 2010 lying in wait.
Based on the 05 I won't be touching it for at least 5 years. I'll try to resist. :P
Got 2010 Gaia and a 2010 pinot also.

I mostly wanted to try the 2013 whites, the Gaia was to make up the mixed 6 and then I figured firstly to have at least one red, and secondly I have 3 bottles of the 2009 in the cellar so a good chance to look at how its going :P

Somehow I never end up buying the Chardonnay, even though when I have had it I have always been impressed... I havent tried his Pinot that I can recall, but I did buy 5 bottles of the 2010 Gaia, I think the Gaia is one of the most massively under-rated wines

2002 Seppelt St Peter's - well, there were less than a 1000 doz of this wine made ( maybe less) and given that Seppelt probably retained a few doz, a lot has probably been consumed and I have 2 doz the odds are are short on finding this wine :o it is an aboslute cracker and I have just polished off the remainder of a bottle :D . First night quite primary but beautiful complex and rich aromas. Glad wrapped the decanter so wine the next day was not as good. worth the entry price and given auction price can be steep, you have a bargain. reckon this should go some time yet despite the overnight experience
