Mail order for UK delivery...

Post by sjw_11 »

Hey, I was wondering if any of the forumites with UK experience could tell me who is a good wine merchant either UK or continental based to order a small mix of Champagne and a couple of aged wines for delivery to a UK address?

I am doing Christmas in Reading this year, and I want to order in some decent plonk. (In Reading, you need it! :P)

Have you tried Wine Searcher?

I find them a pretty useful site to work out who's got what off shore.

I used to buy off many different merchants in the UK, depending on their price on whatever I wanted to buy. I am a bad customer.

Anyway, The Sampler may sort you out? Good mix of, well, everything really. Website orders easy.

I used to buy a lot from a shop called Byrne's in Clitheroe. Three main reasons: value, availability of aged wine and range. Now, you will not find a flash website, but in my experience they offer just about the best value out there. You will need to call them for a chat, though... I especially enjoyed their Italian selection, but they have a good range of just about every wine producing nation!

Hope that helps,

The Sampler has a strong range of grower champagnes & are very helpful/efficient. If value for money is a priority then it would be worth checking the supermarket sites: during: during November the 'champagne season' historically takes place when selected grand marques are discounted, usually by 25%.
During recent work related visits, yet to discover a decent merchant located in Reading. :!:

Try http://www.winesonthegreen.com

They may be an Irish site but we were sent some wine 12 months ago from them and it was sent from the UK.

It arrived within a couple of days from dispatch (albeit with a slightly dodgy customs dec) in perfect condition.
