Anyone tried the 2010 Cliff Edge? I've got some of the 09 which I enjoyed(and on sale) but not tried the 2010 to compare.

DO NOT LIKE. I have never experienced vintage variation like this before (given weather wasnt too dissimilar between vintages)

2009 Cliff Edge was magnificent, while the 2010 is just terrible.

Word of warning people, BUY all the 2009 you can get your hands on.

Thanks Rossco. A well known Bondi wine shop was selling the 09 sub $20 so i put a case down in the cellar.
I've only tried one bottle but thought it good drinking at that price. Might give the 2010 a miss.
Some of the lesser Clonakillas can be like that too comparing vintages

I tried it not long ago and found it quite nice, medium bodied, nice and spicy and for the price quite complex with a nice finish. Before writing it off I'd definitely try a bottle yourself.

I had a bottle whilst watching the election coverage. I didn't think it was too bad and would definitely have another. I have some laying down which I will drink in 3-5 years.

Sorry I should have been a bit clearer in my 1st post.

the 2010 is by no means a 'bad' wine. Its ok.

Its just compared to the 09 its not great at all. While 09 was probably the bargain wine of the year (at least for me)
and punched so far above its price point at circa $22, the 2010 at the same price is just average and realistically
is possibly over priced.

I have had both these wines back to back many times (just to be sure it wasn't bottle variation, or I was having an off day)
I have had both wines blind and in group and every single time the 09 came out MILES ahead.

So much so, i bought 6 cases of the 09.....mainly because im worried about the 2011 and wont buy
another 2010.

I tend to go with the punters here on the forum for the simple reason, they buy wine, wine writers don't, judges at shows don't, those who put out a bible each year don't.
Punters pour it out in a large glass, have a really good look at it, try it with food etc. etc.

I am really laughing that the white coat brigade, not those that come to take you away, but those with olfactory adaptation and palate fatigue...tasting 100-200 one year old shiraz out of XL-5 in sterile conditions with panels that IMHO are either hopelessly inexpereined, have a cellar palate or write a weekly column for a newspaper on the proviso of a kickback all get it wrong....

Was this not red, and wine of show at the 2012 Sydney gig??
On the back of my affinity for Langi, Bests and Seppelts, thought about joining the ranks of the trophy hunters and getting a few, but on reading your post perhaps not.

Yeah. All the best recommendations are crowd sourced. That is the great thing about these forums.

I have one or two bottles left of each of Cliff Edge 2009 and Chalambar 2010 and though the latter has some Bendigo fruit in it, well-made Grampians shiraz in good vintages is a personal favourite, have just recently ordered a 6pk duet of the Bin 1 2012 that CM has rated 93pts and Great Western Riesling 2013. There's a Story I should renew acquaintance with. Haven't tried the Cliff Edge 2010 but think the 2009 is excellent.
