Hate to break it you, but the 05 Chetillons isn't as good as the 02 or 04, but will drink earlier than those 2 vintages. It's fruit forward and a touch tropical compared to a 'normal' Chetillons. The 2006 has recently been released and its pretty good considering the vintage.

I had a taste of the Merchant Prince (along with Mr Carrington) at an Aussie WIMPS at The Ledbury in London. It's pretty special stuff. Try putting some of it in your mouth instead of sniffing it all up your nose like Mr C. :)

Cheers, Travis.

Newly discovered producer I thought I would test out.

The willow lake was very good. The others certainly have character.

Daz, I was at Bests last weekend, and both of these were looking good. The Bin 1 needs some time, though. However we were blown away by the 2012 EVT 51 Riesling...grab a bottle if you can.

Just picked up a 2004 Greenock Creek Cabernet and, as a total shot in the dark punt on something drinkable, a 2007 Tyrrell's Old Winery Pinot Noir (@$10)

Anyone had the Greenock 04 Cab recently? Drinking windows?

Rens is on the money. The good vintages of Greenock Cabernet go for years. They probably won't live like a good Coonawarra Cab or Margaret River Cab but they do age really well. I had a 2003 earlier this year and it was right on the money. 2004 was the best vintage of the 00's in my opinion and the Greenock's were all superb. The Alice's Shiraz is just starting to hit its straps and I'm going to have a '04 Cornerstone Grenache tonight.

As you only have one bottle, I would probably drink it sometime in the next 5 years. Or, drink it now and if you like it, track some more down from auction. I still have 3 bottles of the 04 and while it's been sensational every bottle I've had, I'm leaving the last 3 for another 3 to 5 years.

As for purchases:

Mixed dozen of 2011 Wild Duck Creek. The Wild Duck Creek's are the best 2011's I've tasted. Very, very impressive for the vintage.
5 2012 Greenock Creek Cornerstone Grenache
4 2011 Greenock Creek Cabernet
2 2011 Greenock Creek Alice's Shiraz
1 2011 Greenock Creek Apricot Block
3 2011 Wendouree Cab Malbec
3 2011 Wendouree Shiraz Mataro
3 2010 Tyrrell's Lunatiq Heathcote Shiraz
6 2010 Schwarz Dust Kicker Shiraz

Cheers

The Greenock Creek 2002 Cabernet is a great wine. Cabernet from a warm climate area in a cool year is similar to a cabernet from a cool climate region in a warm year. The blackcurrent flavours are just sensational. Remember blackcurrent fruit pastels? 2002 Barossa vs 2008 Coonawarra. Similar flavour spectrum. Yum!

Thanks all, ended up opening it last night (I bought it for last night, but was considering keeping it if it was going to be way too early). It didn't disappoint. These guys really do some amazing things with grapes - and screwcaps will only help matters further. I took a recommendation that some of the more full on Greenock Creek wines drink well with spicy food - so last night we had it with dry-fried chilli beef. I can now see why Phillip White constantly references a blackcurrant lozenge in his Cabernet reviews when they are this good. I have left a glass in bottle to have a few sips on for the next 2-3 days to see how it opens up. Will be going back for more.

Tried both now; the Riesling 2013 doesn't have the "wow" factor of the 2011, is more subtle and refined than the 2012 with perhaps more complexity than both the previous vintages, it has an interesting perfumed character. The shiraz 2012 is right the slot, power without forcefulness, in Ric-speak, deep-seated ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit, tannins ripe but a bit raspy/stalky/pippy at this stage, should soften over the next few years. The fruit has tried to gobble the oak but it's still there, think it will be better integrated in a few years time by when the lively acid on the good-length finish should soften a bit too. Grampians sub-region shiraz is a favourite.

Down to the last bottle and the hand waivers over it each time I go to the special wine section in the cellar. As always the mantra is "should have bought more".

Looking forward to your assessment of this wine, haven't drunk a varietal petit verdot for years, have enjoyed Gemtree Uncut Shiraz in the past.

It's a bit different, as I'm used to Cab Sav & Shiraz, but certainly worth a try - definitely a good wine for the price :)
