Red Wine Aerator

Post by llredwine »

as description of wine aerator "Decanting Pourer fixes onto your wine bottle spout and oxygenates the wine as you pour" and "Quick and easy – cuts the time out of decanting."

Staff in DM sugggest to use if you don't want to wait for long time to decant wines.

are they really working?
if they are working, any negative or disadvantage in wine taste?

I just got one for about $5. I've only done side by side comparisons with two wines. One was a wine that needed a couple of days to properly open up so I couldn't tell the difference with the pourer. The second wasn't so shy so I could notice a difference between the two. I think the Vinturi things are more effective than the cheaper attachments but I have found a positive difference by using one. If it's $5, it can't hurt to try.

I generally don't like using them as I'd rather wait a bit and see how it goes in the glass....but I have had some success using a Vinturi with older semillons that seem a bit closed and just need to get slapped into place..

I'm not sure it will do much for a wine that just needs a lot of decanting time (like some really young big reds)....

I haven't had any bad experiences with them though...but I don't use them often....Only when I know the wine should be different than it is and I think forcing some air into it will help.

I use one every night if only to strain the wine before it goes into the decanter - think it's great.

I'm definitely a fan of the vinturi, you can even double decant through it to save a couple of hours decanting
