Vale David Cross, Winter Creek Wines

Post by n4sir »

A few weeks ago I heard the news from Pam Cross that David had passed away last month. I have not seen David the last few years because of his illness, but this still came as a big shock and until now I guess I haven't exactly known how to deal with it.

The passing today of Peter Lehmann has struck accord with many here on the forum, yet David has directly touched many here through his enthusiasm, honesty and dedication. His presence has been missed at oflines, and more than a few times people have asked where he is and how he's doing.

It seems appropriate that he deserves a mention here today - I miss him, and pass on my sincerest condolences to Pam, Craig, Josh, Michael and the rest of the family..

Cheers,
Ian.

Oh, this is very sad. Although I never had the opportunity to meet Peter Lehmann, I bought wine from David several times. Once I tasted through his wines, and said "I do like that Riesling; I'll have 4"...to which David replied "no worries, four cases it is, you'd better back up the car". I managed to leave with 4 bottles, but went back, and always bought, as it made me smile every time I thought about it. Still does.

Ian, thanks for posting this. I had no idea.

I last saw David in... I guess it must have been October last year (despite his health, he made a mean hare terrine), though we spoke regularly until I nuked my phone with his number some time early this year and could no longer get in touch.

David was a true gentleman and a good friend. I'm going to miss him very much.
