Recommendation for Barossa/Eden Valley Cellar doors

Hi guys, going down to the Barossa for a couple of days in March next year, any recommendations as to which cellar doors to pop by?

We can skip the well known ones like Rockford, Penfolds and Seppeltsfield. Any experiences would be appreciated

I very much enjoyed Torbreck...lovely guys and you get to try some pretty expensive wine! Also, Artisans of Barossa is worth visiting. Lots of wines to try...Spinifex really stood out for me.

Don't miss the Artisans of the Barossa where you can taste wines from a number of producers including John Duvall, Spinifex, Hobbs of Barossa etc.

Drive out to Eden Valley and go to Henschke.... massively worthwhile and also some great scenery... you can stop by Yalumba while out there (make sure to ask what wines they have open not on the official tasting list)

We go to the Barossa every year and some of the ones we try to pay a visit are:

Rockfords - Stonewallers.
Charles Melton - last year they had a couple of back vintages on tasting and the Hutton Vale meat pies are as good a "dogs eye" as you'll eat.
Gomersal - Barry White is a real character and his Shiraz is amazing for the money.
Turkey Flat - they quite often have a couple of back vintages on tasting.
Torbreck - just because it is Torbreck I suppose plus they normally have the whole range on tasting except for "The Laird".
Greenock Creek - sadly only open for a couple of weeks in September, so no good for you.
Artisons of Barossa - a must do. Beautiful place and lots of high quality wines to try.
Peter Lehmann - worth a look and they do a nice platter.
Kalleske - Appointment only (although the cellar door must be close to opening) but well worth it.
Ballycroft - Appointment only but again, well worth it.
Murray Street Vineyards - Probably close to the best cellar door in the Barossa.
Sieber Road Wines - a bit out of the way but Val is a lovely lady and the cellar door is absolutely beautiful. The wines are a surprise as well.

There are so many to go to and if you do too many it starts to become a bit of a blur in all honesty. We normally limit ourselves to 4 a day and enjoy many of the other activities the Barossa has to offer - like eating!!
Enjoy your trip and if you enjoy yourselves like we do, you won't forget it in a hurry.

Charlie Melton

I am sure you have heard of this winery. They are just up the road from us – and their wines are fabulous – if you have not heard of them – then this is a must go. The Willows

Whistler Wines

This is a small family owned winery that is doing some great things as well. The prices are reasonable. Some of their fruit in the past was sold to Rockford wines. Tele 08 8562 49 42 http://whistlerwines.com


Seppeltsfield Wines

If you like fortified you should go to Seppeltsfield wines – and try their fortified wines + go on a tour! (They have a tour at 10.30 daily and 2.30 daily) http://www.seppeltsfield.com.au/Home.html Tele 08 85686200. The history of Seppeltsfield is great and the grounds are amazing. Also the best coffee and chocolates are sold here – with Richocolates!


Seiber Road Wines

Just up the road from Seppeltsfield – the views are great and the straight Mataro is really good!


Richmond Grove

This is the place to go for Rieslings – and their old Rieslings are great. 08 85637303. If Paul or Annie are on – they will both look after you well!


Hentley Farm Wines

They do charge for a tasting but the wines are great! If Dru is around he will look after. Telephone 08 8562 8037

Kabminye Wines

Good place to go for lunch too – but you might need to book. They have some unusual varieties like Zinfindel and Duriff! If Craig is around he will look after, if not Rick is also great – both have beards so sometimes hard to tell apart but one is the son in law!! Tele 08 85630889


Torbreck Wines

You probably know this winery well – however the wines are great, so it is worth recommending you visit them. Telephone 08 85624155.


Kalleske Wines

Worth giving them a call as the cellar door might be open. Tele 0409 339599


Rusden Wines

Robert’s son Tim has started this label. They also do not have a Cellar Door – so you will need to ring him on 85631510

Hutton Vale Wines (No Cellar Door)

Stone Jar Rd – Angaston. John and Jan Angas are related to George Fife Angas – who Angaston is named after. John and Jan do not open cellar door to the public – so it will be a great opportunity for you to taste the wines, we will need to book you in ahead of time. Telephone 85648270.
