de la Romanee Conti

Post by coh »

Hi guys,
I have been reading a lot about this wine lately in various wine magazines and like most of you have heard of its reputation as one of the best wines in the world. My question is, how and where do you buy one?
I know langtons have their annual 'en primeur' for Bordeaux. But how do you buy from someone reputable and get this wine straight from the winery itself in current vintage?? (apart from someone dodgy on ebay)
Any help would be appreciated especially leading up to Xmas.
Merry xmas to everyone by the way :D .

Shop around good retailers in any capital city. The retailer who provides us with this forum we're in right now sells them :)

And prepare to be disappointed. No wine can possibly live up to the expectations that come with the prices these wines command.

but when you can paid the triple or quadruple.
DRC Romanée-Conti is in the second market for 8000 US$ and many more.
on the domaine site, you can see normally your importer(country).(down)

Roman,

You speak wine - which is a universal language. I looked at the Negociants website, but could find no reference to DRC Romanée-Conti. But I guess it's out of my price range anyway.

with Negociants you have to be on the "invited" list to get anywhere near this.
the last to be listed on the published Reserve Price List was the 2004, about 5 years ago. I forget the $.
I would think that you would have to be a very long term buyer, or wait until somebody falls of the list, to gain access.

cheers

Used to be obtainable in NZ years ago. I remember seeing one casually sitting on the shelf in a shop in Hamilton for $2500 (can't remember the vintage) years ago. I also remember seeing a DRC Montrachet at a liquor barn in Auckland for around $700 five or so years ago. Haven't seen it any on public sale since except for the "cheaper ones", though I know Peter Maudes used to deal in it with "good customers"

DRC is easily obtainable in Japan but the prices are much higher than what you're mentioning. 2009 DRC is ¥1,500,000 which is $16,940.75AU.

The lower wines such as Grands Echezeaux are far cheaper (under $2000AU for 2009). I had an 88 Grands Echezeaux earlier in the year and it was remarkable but not in a million years worth the money.

for (4-5x) multiple from "first" price is each wine easily obtainable.
2009 GE was ~$450 AU(in switzerland).

I'm amazed that 09 GE was ever that cheap. Cheapest I can find at the moment (retail) is ¥82,000 ... $924AU... way less than what I mentioned above! My mistake.. still.. $450.. that's doable!
