Hi all,
Working in Perth currently and will probably have a few hours Saturday afternoon to kill. Immediate thoughts are go and check out some local wineries.
Houghtons comes straight to mind - any others in the Swan Valley / Perth area that are a must to get to?
Thanks in advance

Re: Perth Wineries
You could try Peel Estate:
http://www.peelwine.com.au/
It's only 50ks south of the Perth CBD and has some nice wines.

never underestimate the predictability of stupidity
Re: Perth Wineries
Could be a goer as I am staying in the city and work is about 20k south of Perth so a short stroll.
Thanks for the suggestion

Re: Perth Wineries
Pop in and see John Griffiths at Faber Vineyards in the Swan Valley, top bloke, top wines and only a few K's up the road from Houghton.

In the Swan Valley, check out John Kosovich for great chardonnay, a good cabernet malbec and the 'underground cellar' experience.
Jane Brook has a comprehensive range, including sparkling, reds, whites and fortifieds.
Talijancich for reds and especially fortifieds.
Or, a picturesque drive up into the Perth Hills. Myattsfield and Cosham (next door to each other) would be the best starting point.

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

I had a bottle or two of Talijancich tokay quite a few years ago, loved it. I'm not so much into fortifieds these days though my preferences would be good tokay or tawny port - muscat can be too sweet for me and I've never really been into vintage port.

Hi all
Only managed 3 wineries on Saturday afternoon. Went to Houghtons and had some lunch. Very underwhelmed by the cellar door experience. Could taste a couple of wines gratis or if you want the lot it was $3.
I was really hoping to speak to someone knowledgable about my 96 Jack Mann Magnum and its expected drinking window. All I got was there is a 15-20 year window on the normal size bottle. The grounds are nice though.
Went to John Kosovich and they were out of the Cab Malbec. The Petit Verdot was pretty good though.
Then went to Upper Reach and was reasonably impressed with most of their wines. The Reserve Shiraz and Sparkling Shiraz I thought were excellent.
