Mailing lists - the $100 barrier

I was prompted to think about this by a moderately uninteresting thread on eBob about the pricing of wine, California Cult wines in particular. And it set me to wondering how many wines sold via mailling list in Australia these days cost over $100/bottle. (I should add that I'm not on a heap of lists myself - and none that have anything over $100/bottle).

Offhand, I could think of Hill of Grace (but does it get offered to all mailing list customers?), Giaconda chardonnay, Bass Phillip (but which wines?), Dalwhinnie Eagle perhaps? Do Yarra Yering still sell a fantastically overpriced Merlot? There seem to be very few of the long-established makers who've broached this price-point (none of the big WA makers, not Mount Mary. Wantirna?). Of the newer wave, I presume Run Rig, Ringland?Wild Duck Creek?

Just how many wineries ask this money for wine from their mailling customers?

Giaconda Chardonnay was $93/750mL for the 2002 vintage - not over $100.

-Henschke HoG and Hill of Roses
-Three Rivers Shiraz and Randall
-WDC Duck Muck
-Greenock Creek Roennfeldts
-Torbreck RunRig, Descendant, The Factor
-Kaestler Old bastard
-Dalwhinnie The Eagle
-Bass Phillip Reserve, Premium and Estate (?)
-Yarra Yering merlot (not sure if this is still +$100)
-Marquis Phillips Integrity (no longer offered to domestic market though)
-Two Hands Ares

Rec'd a mailer from a winery I never buy from last week (can't remmeber name) and they have a new wine from old vine Shiraz for +$100.

I'm sure I've missed a few but others will fill it out ...

Alan - the Hill of Roses is a youthful HoG. It is from vines in the HoG vineyard that have not reached the requisite old age to make it into the HoG wine. Stpehen Henschke apparently thought these vines produced amazing juice in 2001 so he decided to bottle it. The 1st vintage is the 2001 and only 400 bottles were made. It was offered to long-standing Henschke ML customers at one per customer. The cost was $100 per bottle ($50 upfront and $50 on delivery).

One of proven pedigree that has not hit this price point is the Stonyridge Larose. I know it's not Australian, but it does come from the other side of the Tasman and it is highly sought after.

There is only 300 bottles hill of roses produced or at least is available to the public anyway. You are limited to 3 bottles per customer. I was offered 3 bottles and got all 3. It came in a very nice box similar to the hill of grace. The bottle does not have labels, all the information is printed directly onto the bottle itself in gold. Nice looking bottle.

When I open one I will post the TN.

That other wine over $100 is the Knight Granite Hills Baptista for $115.

Also, the Tahbilk 1860 Old Vines is now $110 pb
