Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Hi All. Been off the grid for while, drinking very little. Offloaded about 30 dozen bottles. Cheers Con. Glad to hear your ok Con. We have missed you. We had Tom and Jerrem to dinner last night and cooked a chicory Tarte tatatin and a couple of Tomohawks. Have enough leftovers to keep us fed for at...

Re: April 2024 purchases
There is actually a reserved mailing list for some customers, which I only found out about on Sat. I don’t know how the pricing went, but at the same discussion I was told that the quantity of wine available on the secondary market caused the price to crash last year. May still have been above the r...

Don’t remember ever drink the Basket Press before. I thought it was meant to be an old school Parker style wine with a lot of oak and extract, but it was actually reasonabley elegant. Good fruit and acidity, this was the first bottle to be finished on the day, which tells its own story. The Koomila ...

Re: TN: Melbourne tastes young Shiraz 13/04
With the benefit of hindsight I served the reds in the wrong order. They were sorted by region, starting with Vic, and then moving onto South Australia. That meant the more modern wines - Agricola, Setiono and (to a lesser extent) Sami Odi - came after some more traditional wines. These in vogue new...

Proper Sauternes with a lushness and a weigh of fruit that made it very different to the others. Glorious and one of the best w...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Opened up a 2016 Block 95 Cabernet from Parker Estate last night. Too young, but its one of those hard to store bottles and I need to make some room before the May Sami Odi delivery, Pretty bad wine. Its gloopy and syrupy and missing freshness. Lots of fruit, but its dominated by a lot of charcoal -...

It was the ‘23 vintage. They also had the 22 Chardonnay ($129), 22 Gamay ($89)and 21 Cabernet ($71) as part of the offer. Sent out on 16/02. I picked the wine up a week later along with an auction purchase.

Lovely Tawny. It does not have the silkiness and glycerin of a top Fortified, but there is a lovely pepperiness on the finish. Not sweet, just red fruits and some dark sugar. Lovely wine

Re: Grand Cru (Perth) Tasting Group – Greek and Middle Eastern Wines
Are there more mineral wines than Greek Assyrtiko ? Really seems to soak up the sea and the stone.
I think I have lamented before that one of my favourite wines - a fantastic Assyrtico/Semillon blend - is not imported into Greeces 3rd city. Shame.

Where it was stored and level are more important than the original case. Given that it’s not cost you anything, just open and drink it - stand it up for a day and then pop and pour.

Re: March 2024 Purchases
There are definitely bargains out there - price for Sami-Odi at MW tonight seemed a lot softer than a year ago. Still plenty of bidders though - a couple of wines I flagged went for more than double the reserve. I picked up a couple of bottles of 93 St George Cabernet, Lindemans, 6 bottles of 2006 B...

3 bottles of 75 Steinberger Spatlese from Staatsweingüter Eltville.
Not a name that rolls off the tongue, but when you see the white labels and the big eagle they are pretty recognisable.

Went to a Montrose tasting with Cuttlefish tonight, which was fun. 19, 12, 11, 94 and 95 of the Grand wine, 19 and 14 of Le Dame and the 19 white and red Tronquay. I went along just to see how young Bdx looks nowadays, and the answer is ‘very well’. The 2 Tronquay wines were very open, modern and ac...

I bought a few bottles of Elizabeth Semillon at MW, 1 of the 84 and 2 of the 86. I drank the 83 with Con a few weeks ago and it was hanging on, so hopefully these will be fine - cork of course, so who knows. The Melbourne group had lunch yesterday at ll Gambero on Lygon Street. Corkage was $10 a bottle. Food was the simple pasta/pizza variety, but it was all edible and the service was good.
