I scored two bottles of 1999 Penfold's 707 at $40 a bottle from an IGA in Queenscliffe (near Geelong) two weeks ago. I suspect the same lack of a "1".

Also w00t! These stories are few and far between, but damn satisfying regardless.

I will say it's been most gratifying to see the rapid deployment of the military into the region - looks like Australia learnt from Katrina. Purified water, emergency shelter and food supplies all look to be getting to those who need it, and in rapid order. I don't have too many kind words for the H...

Went to Rockpool for my anniversary and had the matched wine set to go with the "Chef's Selection" menu (Neil-Perry-speak for degustation). Am working on a lengthy set of TN's which I hope to complete tonight.

And yes there were whites involved.

Tried one last night too. Went in to VC to buy a bottle but they had it open for tasting. [...] Wasn't tempted to purchase even a single bottle. Here's another "me too". Tried it at VC Beecroft on Saturday and found it cloying and (as Jay60 put it) "industrialised". I don't mind one-dimensional (at...

Yes, the kitcheneres are high on the list. Ugly as sin I know, but function over form (same goes for stelvin vs cork).

My main acoustic is a Martin which I picked up as a treat for myself some years ago and which only gets better with age.

E-Space walk-in cellars

Does anyone know anything about the ESPACE walk-in cellar unit? They look good on paper. Transtherm sell them ( http://www.transtherm.com.au ). The prices seem reasonable (as compared to the Vintecs). Apparently they are a complete package - room, shelves, cooling unit. (max) 900 bottles - $16000 ($...

Hi Allan Still playing, naturally, but only acoustic. The resolution of this cellar debate came down to the question "how long do we plan on staying at our current address?". This was unable to be firmly answered, but I suspect we'll leave the remote wilderness of Kenthurst in the next 2-3 years, so...

Drinking American for beginners

OK - my 2006 resolution is to become less ignorant of the wines of the US of A. As I am TOTALLY ignorant currently, any advance on that is a step forward. My entire US wine experience consists of one bottle of Berenger Clear Lakes Zinfandel 1999, which didn't impress me much, although it improved af...

Manning you did well to get 12 We used the "two different names & credit cards" method to get two cases, and used both home and office addresses. I think they've sold out now unfortunately - there only 1500 bottles made, so getting 12 was nearly 1% of the total production. And oh my, it's good ...

Desperately need a wine cellar

OK, my collection is growing substantially, and the recent spate of 46 deg days (46C - that's 114F to our US colleagues) has convinced me that cellaring under the house is no longer a viable wine cellar option. Hence all purchasing has cessated until I do something about cellarage. The house sits on...
