I am a big fan of the Salinger as a sparkler with a great QPR. Another one worth considering IMO is the 1999 Seaview Pinot Noir Chardonnay which could give you more budget room for more red wine ;)

Had a great Sunday but it may be costly in the long term 1994 Tim Adams Aberfeldy Had this one courtesy of Ric and this is by far the oldest bottle of wine I have ever consumed. It was amazing. The wine was so smooth and rich with fine tannins barely noticable in the background. One of the best wine...

Sounds like I might have had mine too early - it was a 97 that we drank in 2003 but given that it was my father's bottle I wasn't going to knock it back :D

All the wines I drink tend to be below $25 so the best two I had this year would have been:

2003 Auswine Reserve Cleanskin
2003 Seppelt Chalambar

Thanks for the feedback guys. I don't have the patience or the facilities to do any long term cellaring at the moment so I'll continue buying my wines in the $10 - $15 price category. Probably as I get older and more into wine I'll move into the higher priced wines and start cellaring. Might even ge...

Quaffers v High Priced Wines

Andrew's comments about the 2002 Jacobs Creek Reserve Shiraz made me think about something that I have always wondered, which is what do you get for your money. That is, when you can get high quality quaffers like the Jacob's Creek Reserve wines, the Seppelt Original, Hardy's Oomoo, Peter Lehmann et...

2002 Seppelt Salinger sparkling My favourite Australian sparkling wine. Great fruit with a dry, yeasty finish. Best value for money in the sparkling market by a mile IMO Chandon Pinot Noir/Shiraz sparkling Very enjoyable red sparkler - big sweet fruit. Not too complex - you don't have to think too ...

I quite like Joomla http://www.joomla.org as a good, simple and free content management system.

You can tryout a number of CMSes online at http://www.opensourcecms.com which will give you an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of the various packages before you choose one.

Not much time for drinking this week Water Wheel Shiraz 2002 This was not as good as I remembered when I first tried it last year. Had a large taste of alcohol and vanilla and was quite thin. Possibly tainted? Deakin Estate Cabernet Sauvigon 2004 Got served this at a function I went to. Sweet fruit ...

TN: 2002 Peter Lehmann Shiraz

First ever tasting note :)

2002 Peter Lehmann Shiraz

Has a ripe fruity taste with medium (?) tannins and a slighty acidic finish. Not overly oaked and has a taste of pepper as well. Very good drinking for the price - I loved it.

Cheers,

Craig

If I was spending that much money at a retailer I'd like to think that I'd get better service than that. Looking at the overall history it seems like a case where a retailer takes a customer for granted. Then again just thinking of spending $US1000 on 3 bottles of wine makes my head spin Craig

Why do magnums typically cost more than two 750ml bottles of the same wine? Thanks, Craig Craig, you left out "much", before "more", at least at the premium end of the market. The pricing is set by whatever the market will bear, people who want to cellar wine a long time seem willing to pay the pre...

One thing that they will need to think about carefully is brand overlap. For exmple, you have low end Pennies, high end Rosemount and even higher end Wolf Blass wines. Interesting - I wonder how they'll manage this? Will it mean the deletion/redistribution of certain wines within the range? I.E. co...

This wine should sit in your cellar alongside the Warrabillas.
Or in my case laundry cupboard. The cellar is on the list of "things to do" beneath painting the house, floorboards etc ;)

At the lower end of the spectrum I had a Tahbilk Republic 2001 Shiraz Grenache Mourvedre last night and it was a great quaffer. Very easy to drink and some nice tannins and it was a bargin at $7 a bottle :)
