St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2001 last night. After 5 weeks of Europeans, this was delightful with an old friend.

Re: Food wine matching - who cares?

What about tasting notes. I saw this one recently: This sun loving grape turns out lush, balanced wines with fine tannins, fresh crimson acidity and aromatic tones of Morello cherry and ripe blood plums. Blood orange peel and the slight pucker of quince; straps of black licorice; an organic cherry o...

Re: Food wine matching - who cares?

I might spend 4+ hours drinking a wine and maybe 20 minutes eating my main meal at home or a restaurant. The dinner I have tonight demands Chardonnay (creamy chicken dish with steamed greens), but it is COLD tonight so what am I drinking? 2006 Kabminye Schleibs Block. And it was nice with dinner, b...

Re: Barossa Valley Trip May 2013 Incl. Rockford Black Magnum

Hi Ian It certainly was a great time in the Barossa. We (group of 4 boys) had come up from Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills to arrive as you did in Tanunda. Clare and Eden valley were to come. I'm glad you found Ballycroft as I have been trumpeting Joe's wine since his fi...

Re: Brisbane RNA Wine Show Results

When I look at these results, as well as other show results, I stare in amazement at the non-medal winning wines. There are some big names that received very low marks, that have been given very high marks by wine reviewers. There are also some amazing wines that receive seriously low marks as well...

Re: Brisbane RNA Wine Show Results

Thanks Graham Any highlights from you? Cheers Michael Hi Michael Another very nice Riesling from 2005 takes out the show. A very good riesling year. The Pinot Char bubbles from Hardys was a standout. I'm not a white bubbles fan usually, but I will buy a bottle or two of this one. A nice new range f...

Michael - any word on vintages? After a little research I went with the 05. Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon 2003 - quite good, upfront palate Tyrrells Vat 1 Semillon 1998 - subtle, excellent wine Kabminye Hubert Shiraz 2002 - bit disappointing for a 'flagship' - good on release but tannins all amiss. have purchased 4 bottles based on the abolute love that the local DM's manager has for this wine. He told me to stick it away for 10 years and then decant for 3 hours. We opened a 1945 Old Dolcetto port in May last year. The wax seal was still intact and the cork was soaked right up to the top.
