Independent bottleshop on way to Phillip Island

Hi all, Just after a decent independent bottleshop to support on my way down to P.I from Tullamarine next week. I realise it would be cheaper/easier to just stop at one of the many multi national offerings on the way but I am really starting to loathe that fact. Please help me in making an utterly m...

Congrats Cadel - Time to pull out your finest peoples

Hi all, Haven't posted in a while but wanted to say what a fantastic effort by Cadel in le tour. Tonights it's time to crack one of your most special wines from the cellar to celebrate this momentous occasion. For me it will be a bottle of Krug MV that I have had stached away for some time. Let us k...

Re: Christmas Wines

Drank my only bottle of the Seppelt Reserve 1998 earlier this week. Cracking wine, dense, dark, savory goodness that went on and on. Great drinking now but on this bottle would leave for another 5 - 10 years as still seemed to have plenty more to come. You can only judge the bottle in front of you a...

Agree with Wayno here, remember having a Lawson's 1999 a couple of years ago that was just like a pepermint crisp chocolate bar on especially the nose but palate also. Delicious wine.

Re: TN: AFWAC - 2009 Clare & Eden Valley Rieslings 22/2/10

Great notes, reading them made me really feel like a glass of riesling. Two weeks ago I bought a recent release riesling dozen ( 6 x 2 bottles ) for tasting. So far the O'leary Walker Polish Hill 09 and the Lehmann Eden Valley 08 have been very impressive. The only one from the dozen I haven't tried...

Kreglinger Sparkling 2003 - much better than last bottle tasted six months ago, lots of bready lemon aromas with a quite developed palate and decent length. Worth a try but nothing special and at the RRP definitely better options around.

1995 Dom Perignon Oenotheque - quite simply, a magnificent bottle of young champagne. Lovely floral and cirtusy nose with just a hint of bread. Palate had the trademark Dom creaminess with wave after wave of elegant, sweet fruit flavours that seemed to go on forever. This is without doubt one of th...

Re: 1986 Grange cork problem

Had a 1976 Grange about 2 years ago that was quite possibly the most horridly oxidised wine I have ever tasted. Bought from auction so no idea of cellaring history but level was still fine. Never thought about trying to get a replacement, though in your case knowing it has been looked after I can se...

The Rothbury wines would most likely be the on premise only wines that would cost wholesale only around $5 or so a bottle. These wines are usually marked up 300 - 400 %+ and are pretty ordinary IMO. The other wines mentioned will cost more but are most likely to have not been marked up so highly and...

Planned on not to many purchases this month but one of the local large national chains has been deleting all the quality to fit in lots more of the under $20 quantity I presume. I have added in brackets the prices in the hope of justifing, mostly to myself, the massive splurge ( for me that is anywa...

Penfolds Bin 28 1998 - Cruising along just fine, as many have noted previously not quite up to the quality of the 1996 but still a very good wine in it's own right. Plenty of fruit and subtle spicy oak with softening tannins. Will not open another for a year or so, plenty left in the tank. Tyrells B...

TN : HOUGHTON CROFTERS CABERNET MERLOT 2000

Medium red colour with a great cabernet nose of cloves, tobacco, spice and capsicum. Palate is deliciously firm and juicy with blackcurrant fruit and hints of all that the nose suggested along with a touch of black olive thrown in the mix. Tannins soft and chalky, this wine is drinking beautifully a...
