The thermoelectric wine fridges with the exception of the excellent Kitchener models are only capable of maintaining a fairly limited temperature differential compared with the room temperature. If the room the fridge is in is too hot the fridge will not be able to get down to suitable temperatures....

Re: new fridge

I'm thinking about one of the Vinovault fridges too so if anyone has any comments on this particular brand I'd appreciate it.

Agreed (well excluding the ?! anyway) :)

The only other Queensland winery I'd be interested in is Symphony Hill, they are making some very good wine.

Tasmanian Oak is a marketing name for 3 species of Eucalypt and as such is completely different to the oak used for winemaking.

The Vermentino used only to be available from various places in Mildura associated with Stefano de Pieri, hopefully it is now more widely distributed. I had a glass at the Grand Hotel a few months ago and subsequently bought a bottle from Stefano's deli. It is nice wine and a grape variety that no d...

On your last point I disagree with US being a bigger worry because the choice in the marketplace would more likely {infact almost always is} be between Australian and French wine ..... The choice in the market place is much broader than that. In the US Italy supplies an enormous amount of wine for ...

Frontignac is one of the many synonyms for Muscat (specifically the Petits Grains variety) and as such is used extensively in Australia, mainly to make sweet liquer styles, Morris, Seppelt and many others. From your question it appears you are refering to table wine and if I recall correctly there a...

Then you should get the DVD and listen to the Thomas Hayden Church (Jack) and Paul Giamatti (Miles) voice over during the movie. They both provide a very vocal appreciation of Virginia Madsen's (Maya) attributes! Mike The DVD isn't released in Australia until 11 May 2005 so we'll have to be patient

Be sure to go at the weekend, hardly any wineries are open duing the week. One that is open during the week and is worth a visit is Templers Mill at the Sydney University Orange Campus.

Some of the wineries are aimed squarely at the coaches and have some astoundingly bad wines.

Re: wine tote

Lastly, what about customs? I see the limit is 3 bottles per/person. Is it too risky to bring some good french wine in and take a gamble on more than 3 bottles - could well be a cost saving exercise that backfires...... If you exceed the limit then Customs will (at least in theory) charge duty and ...

De Bortoli Yarra Valley is operationally separate to De Bortoli Riverina and they won't have Noble One or Black Noble on show, although they might have some under the counter. I visited De Bortoli Yarra Valley a couple of weeks ago and they do have Black Noble available for tasting, it is included ...

The Long Flat Wine Company Yarra Valley Pinot Noir seems to be well regarded although I personally do not like the 2004. I had one bottle of the 2003 and I recall that being quite pleasant. Cost around $12.

I like the De Bortoli Gulf Station Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, cost around $13.50.

Vin de Pays de l'Aude can actually be very good. A lot of producers have made the decision to produce wines outside the AOC system - ie using different grape varieties etc. When they do that the wine defaults to the vins de pays level, in this case Aude. Often the best wines of a good producer will ...
