Gary, if you come on down, not only can you share impulsiveness, whilst watching me eat my humble pie, but i'll also whack on a wig, and big shoes, for your entertainment. Juggling and Unicycle included.

the vinicidal olive branch.

following my outburst and subsequent pasting in the 2000 grange thread
i've had an impulsive, vinicidal thought.

i'm contemplating purchasing a 2000 grange, for the purpose of opening it at a melbourne restaurant for tasting by any forumite interested.

pls post expressions of interest here.

06 PENNY'S HILL RED DOT SHIRAZ VIOGNIER

light nose of liqourice and blackberry over apricot
medium bodied palate of dull liqourice and pepper
aftertaste of plum, sharp-ish blackberry and apricot
soft tannins

bland and boring, yet not offensive.
next please.

In my experience I've found very few people of any value in the retail sector. (e-tailers excluded of course) All the wine shops I've been into have had staff who are either snobbish wankers, people who recommend every wine in the shop or glorified storemen. There are exceptions of course, but rare...

I haven't tried it but note that JH thinks that the criticism of the 2000 Grange is not warranted. You might want to have a look at Campbell Mattinson's recent Grange vertical TNs as part of the Penfolds Rewards of Patience. He rated as follows - 2002 94-95 2001 92 2000 87 1999 96 1998 98 1997 86 1...

This I guess is abit of an aside, but I thought it appropriate to post it here, with further impressions later. Enjoyed the 2006 Escarpment Pinot yesterday night, and thought it was sensational. Interesting to the last glass. In your opinions, does Ata Rangi make a superior Pinot? Cheers, Monghead....

2006 Cat Amongst The Pigeons Barossa Valley Shiraz While drinking this I thought that I would let my 'signature' sing the praises of this wine but it deserves more than that. Good 'tish' it certainly is. Very fullsome with very good cling. Ripe berry aromas with rasberries, plums and a very very su...

the only wine i had that I don't sell was on Xmas night at a bbq with lamb steaks and good company. 1998 Tamburlaine Reserve "red" My first experience with an aged hunter red. Absolutely superb. There's an interesting yet long winded story as to how i scored this bottle, but it was immacul...

05 paul osicka shiraz - just after opening smells like another dark fruitbomb, that over a few hours (if i was having one with dinner, i'd open it at lunchtime) develops into a spicy chocolate delight - absolutely sensational stuff.

i sell this wine.

Quoting the tasting notes I have on hand, courtesy of an e-tailer. This e-tailer's suggested cellaring times are typically shorter than others may recommend as he prefers to drink wines whilst "fruit flavours are evident." I'd speculate that this wine would drink well over the next 5 years...

I think one thing to remember is how good prices have been. If you haven't been stocking up over the last few years, then you should have. One big retailer currently offering the Seppelt Chalambar 2005 for $14.90 in a six-pack ! Hello...! Get on it now ! Does anyone think wines of this quality are ...

Price rises

My prediction; (based on a little experience) There seems to be a trend developing in this country, for whatever reason the media will speculate about price rises then sure enough 2-3 weeks later it will happen. It's happened with fuel, groceries, beer, real estate. It's almost like once it's publis...

we must have got a dud bottle,
ours exploded, after sitting in the fridge for a week and being moved 2 feet from fridge to desk, after the explosive-ness faded it revealed a terribly dull and lifeless wine.
