Re: 1986 Grange cork problem

Maybe point Penfolds to this prior saga re 86 Grange: m Just chiming in on this, given my tale was referenced. From my view my '86 was not a precedent to this tale. My bottle exhibited factors of TCA taint; as referenced by a another bottle opened. My issue was that the subsequent analysis and revi...

I took the liberty of taking your words out of the subject line. First Runrig was about 1995. Clonakilla created waves several years before that.

Re: A Purple Hen?

I drank a really interesting wine this afternoon with a friend. The maker is Purple Hen and the wine is the Gippsland 2006 Merlot. The vineyard is described as 'near Rhyll on Philip Island'. I don't normally buy Merlot so it was a novelty to find a really 'different' wine with a distinctive nose an...

Not to forget to YY Merlot, which on first release was one of or the most expensive domestic wine to buy in Australia at 100+ per bottle. Hi Sean,

The first 1st Choices I've seen are big Murphy-ish barns based on big box retailing. The did have a bit of marketing bling with kiosks etc, but basically it was a Murphy with a different colour scheme, competing for that same 'we're cheapest' market.

I don't think the DM/1stChoice model allows them to efficiently deal with small makers and premium imports (other than high-volume lines). Agreed, when the Geelong DM opened the Fine Wine Manager there had to go into intense battle to stock Geelong regional wines beyond the DM standard range. He fi...

If they extract the cork with supercritical CO2 that should remove most of the TCA. Thats some smart thinking there. Im not sure about the claim that says all the corks...

Why?

Because it isn't a cork. Put a natural cork and DIAM side by side. Are they the same? Why mislead your customers? Bring them onboard.
