Re: Penfolds 2015 release...

Grabbed 6 x 389 and a single road test bottle of 28 for $55 and $25 per bottle respectively. To me, that pricing isn't too far off the mark. RRPs are another story altogether.

The st henri at 70 ish was tempting but I'll hold fire I think.

Re: Seriously - Is St Henri better than Bin 389?

Prefer st Henri myself, but both nice in their own ways. 389 @ $80 and st henri @ $100 though. They'd want to be nice! Hopefully St Henri can be had for a bit less than that on release. Will likely grab 6 and that'll do me from the pennies release, though I'll no doubt sample some of the lesser bins...

A very informative and articulate post Mahmoud. Thanks.. from a guy in a similar position to the OP – just figuring it all out.

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Popped and poured a Clonakilla hilltops 2012 Shiraz last night. Nothing complex here but rather pretty. Peppery dark fruits. Simply structured, light to medium bodied with minimal tannins. Rather enjoyed it.

Re: Bad Streak

Can names be named please? Am fairly new to the caper and have bought (but not yet drunk) from auction. Anecdotes won't stop me snapping up the absolute (at face level) bargains but are very much welcome!

Re: 2010 Penfolds St Henri.

It’s very thin on the ground. I undertook a fruitless search before stumbling across 2 bottles in SYD airport inbound duty free. Picked them up.

Perhaps some are held back for a DM cellar release.. if that’s the case, I’m sure the price will be exorbitant!

Noticed that also.. pretty poor form!

Where'd you get to taste the Grange and 707?

Re: 2010 Penfolds Grange (and other 2014 releases)

I tasted the 389. Big and slightly awkward. It needs time and likely a lot of it. I picked up a couple and to a cool dark place they have travelled.

28 wasn't available for tasting when I popped in, so will hold off for now and revisit on the weekend.

Re: 2010 Penfolds Grange (and other 2014 releases)

A couple of 389’s to put away and perhaps half dozen 28’s for me, if they can be had for somewhere significantly under the $40 RRP. Some hints may or may not be dropped to the significant other that a bottle of the RWT would make a nice Christmas gift. Any thoughts on potential deviati...

catchnrelease wrote:How much were they?

$99 each... Ouch, I know.. But given the hype and apparent scarcity I was happy to pay to see what the fuss is all about. At least one of them will be put away long term.

They threw in a nice penfolds double box with them.

Welcome Aboard!! Never heard of Sanguine Estate. Have you tried their wines previously? If so, do tell.... Cheers Michael My first taste of them also.. on a colleague’s recommendation. If I remember, I’ll be sure to report once it’s cracked open. Still relatively new to the gam...
