Re: transporting wine internationally

Yep, no problems. I've probably transported wine the last 15-20 flights I've been on, some 2 or 3 stops from the other side of the world and am yet to have one break. I ordered some wine online once and the wine came in, hmmmm how do I describe it, these little air filled plastic sleeping bags?, tha...

Re: Advice please on a disappointment.

May I interpose a question but what would you (collectively) feel is too high a temperature? My brother lives in Cairns and is always moaning about the temps being too high to keep wine. I believe him but I was wondering what a subjective tipping point might be. The temperature and length of time i...

Re: Georgian wine

Hey vovo, I was in Georgia in 2015 for a couple of weeks. We split our time between the Caucasus mountains and the Kakheti region, which is the main wine region. Like you say, Saperavi is probably the most well known. The problem is there are so many varieties over there it's easy to lose track! Fro...

Re: The Sicilian wine thread

Cheers winetastic. It was a pretty epic experience. I spent 3 months in Italy (Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, Tuscany, Puglia and Sicily) and then 2 months in France culminating with a vintage in Burgundy! I've often thought about typing up some notes on here about it but it's a) a very daunting ...

Re: The Sicilian wine thread

I spent a month in Sicily in August 2016. My travels mainly revolved around wine regions but also a bit of sightseeing (non wine related ) and relaxing on the beautiful beaches. Truly fell in love with the place and their wines. I had just under a week around Etna. I visited quite a few wineries whi...

Re: Blind tasting suggestions - Shiraz and Cabernet

FWIW, most 2012 Vintage NZ Syrah or Cabernet should be avoided IMHO. A poor year for bigger reds, with very few exceptions. 2013 though... back up the truck bro. Yep, agree. Managed to snag a few 2013 Coleraine! Wish we had access to more of it over here! Maybe I'm a little biased though, being a k...

Re: Blind tasting suggestions - Shiraz and Cabernet

I'd prefer to stay away from the Barossa I think. One of the other attendees has a soft spot for Barossa wines so assuming he'll have that covered (probably should've mentioned that). In saying that if I can't find anything else the ones mentioned above look to be good options. A Cabernet from Chile...

Blind tasting suggestions - Shiraz and Cabernet

Hi guys, I'm hoping to get some recommendations/wisdom from you all. I'm off to a blind tasting this week and need to bring 2 bottles along. One each of; Shiraz or blend and a Cabernet or blend. Both need to be 2012 but they don't need to be Australian so there is some scope there to take something ...

Re: Time to do the wine budget!!

Whats the estimated wait on the Marius waiting list? had my first bottle of Sympatico not all that long ago, and very keen to buy more. Loved it. Took me 10 months. I put my name down in August 2014 and I received an email from Roger last week stating that I'm now on the mailing list. Likewise me. ...

Re: Wine Storage - Canberra

So, now that Candamber have closed down I've relocated my wine to a spot in Queanbeyan. I understand it's temperature controlled (don't think humidity), however I'm not convinced their measures to keep it at a constant temperature are any good. I called them earlier to ask if they turn the air con o...

It's been a while since I've been to Turkey and I never did visit a winery there so it's difficult for me to recommend any thing. However, Lebanon is a different matter. I was there in the summer of 2005, a year before the devastating bombing of the country by the Israelis. I wandered around the co...

Hi guys, I've got 1 week in Lebanon and 2 weeks in Georgia (as well as 3 weeks in Turkey) at the end of April. Thanks guys, I'll check them out tomorrow. I'm getting a little paranoid about this heat, and the fact that I can't find anywhere in my house that has a constant low(er) temperature.

Julian, would love a game but I'm in NZ 13th-23rd Nov. Free next weekend for a hit if you are available?

Cheers
