Re: Trip to France - recommendations
I found 2 days around Beaune to be very worthwhile as a nice trip from Paris. I drove due to the train strikes and that was a bit of a mission but via train would be very pleasant. Beaune is a beautiful town and the surroundings are also lovely and easily accessible. It surprised me how close everyt...

One thing I would add is most references to Burgundy on forums tend to assume it’s red. That is a major mistake as in my opinion the best, most consistent wine from Burgundy is white... Premox issues noted.

Garganega (and Garganega dominant blends). Had a few I wasn’t fussed on but had a few real beauts, including the Quintarelli Bianca Secco 2017. Not sure it’s good value, but was very nice. Also Etna Bianco, such as the Tenuta Delle Terre Nerre Calderara Sottana 2017 . Italian whites have always been...

Giaconda don’t do the Warner Shiraz anymore, I believe the owners of the vineyard didn’t renew the contract to supply the fruit and now put out their own label from the vineyard which is about 2/3 the price of what the giaconda was and still a lovely wine. I agree with Mychurch that their Rhône blen...

Was there a few years ago on a day trip out of Barcelona. It’s an snarfing tourist destination in that apparently until relatively recently many cellar doors didn’t take visitors. A number didn’t really seem to understand wine tourism. That being said most we went to were very pleased to see people ...

Well worth checking. I ordered, amongst other stuff, 6 Cab Malbec. Was charged for this and receipt said I got this. Delivery was in fact 6 Cab Sav. Called winery, they are doing a swap.
Definitely prefer to have the cab malbec than the cab sav so dodged a bullet there.

Went to St Claude's in paddington (Oxford st) last week. Corkage $20pb but still not bad considering restaurant mark ups. Nice room, good service. Entrees were ok without being great (steak tartare, cheese soufflé). Mains were very good (salmon with crab salad, confit duck). The confit duck in parti...

Thanks all and thanks David. The dates I'm in London don't really work for the BYO places, shame. I'm staying at The London Edition from 21st until Christmas Day then off to the countryside. I've booked lunch on 22nd at La Dame De Pic and trying to swing my way into the Ledbury for Xmas eve though n...

Thanks guys some good recommendations there. I think I will either be staying at The Ned near Bank tube stop which looks not that far from spitalfields, or a few hotels in Soho in looking at. Suffice to say Sam if you are around at Xmas and not back here I'd be happy to catch up for a glass. London ...

Italian restaurant in Singapore booked. They do a buffet of cold cuts, cheese and oysters etc. Main course is aka carte. 98$ per person with free flow non alcohol, $128 for everything and prosecco...$198 for everything aforementioned but Dom perignon free flow. Thinking of the last option. Think I ...

Re: Which Aussie region consistently produces the best Pinot Noir
Adelaide you also have Murdoch Hill who do a decent Pinot and a decent Pinot meunier, or sometimes a blend of the two. Relative newcomers but several vintages under their belt. That being said, I don't think Adelaide are even close with Tasmania, Yarra, Geelong and Mornington. Cannot believe Hunter ...

Awesome, quite a good line up there. Not surprised to see the Kumeu HH take line honours, some good competition but it is a favourite of mine and with 4 years age in it it is starting to hum. Good to see the Ten Minutes Pinot holding up well with 9 years on it as well, also I think a very under rate...

Hey all Am hoping for a bit of inside info on a trip to Melbourne this weekend (sadly not for the Grand Final). Am staying out on the Dandenong Ranges. Some very interesting points there Sean.
I would have put Savaterre a year or so ago but I'm the last 12 months I have had two bottles and both have been pretty average. I'm hoping it's just coincidence or a few bad bottles because when I first tried their wine I was very very impressed.

You've pretty much got me covered too on Chardonnay Tim, but I'd sub Vasse Felix Heytesbury for the Cullen, and I'd try to sneak in Lakes Folly or maybe one of the Yabby Lake single vineyards. And possibly Pooley Cooinda, new but old Yattarna fruit and pretty damn good

Re: What is the most egregious wine pricing you have seen?
I have read the entire post, in particular the last few pages, in entirety, more than once. Am I correct, or close to it, in thinking: 1. Some restaurants charge a lot for wine, especially at the lower RRP price point; 2. Jamie really likes Hill of Grace; 3. Everyone else probably would like Hill of...

Re: Melbourne restaurants
Ended up at Matteo's on Sunday night. Food and service were first rate and BYO for $20 corkage at a venue of that caliber is fine by me. Went to French Saloon Monday. Food and service again first rate, good wine list and mark ups not completely outrageous on most stuff, but some more modestly priced...

Town Mouse sounds good. I'm going with someone who isn't into super contemporary food or fine dining, so Italian or Bistro style would be perfect. Looking at maybe Tipo OO or European. Still, any other suggestions definitely welcome
