Re: Your Cellar Treasure

My special bottles are as follows: Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz 1998 A single vineyard wine from a great vintage. Made by the master, Trevor Mast. I remeber purchasing the three bottles from Quaffers, the chain that pre-dated 1st Choice. Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch 1998 I always wanted t...

Re: 2018 Penfolds Collection release

I lost interest in purchasing Penfolds more than a decade ago. The wines are way over-priced and do not reflect terroir. There is far better value in the market.

Not Amarone Mahmoud. The wine tastes OK, just not like a cool climate Shiraz. If it was in a blind tasting you would probably say it is a warm climate South Australian Shiraz.

Manadala Yarra Valley Shiraz 2016

I drank this at their Mandala's restaurant on Sunday. I don't know what they were thinking producing a 15.4% alcohol wine in the Yarra Valley. That is a ridiculous amount of alcohol in a cool climate region. Sure the wine tasted OK, but the point is it tasted more like a McLaren Vale or Barossa Vall...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

These wines are from the March 2013 Bins release. This was really the last time I bought any Penfolds wines in quantity. A vintage like 2010 was like a litmus test for me, ie. whether or not I really wanted to keep buying Penfolds wines. Generally these are pretty good wines. If you like the house ...

Wow clearly times have changed at Langton's for vendors. My only interaction with Langton's as a vendor was very poor. Supposedly my wine sold, and after some period of non-payment I was told the winning bidder returned the unopened bottles because they claimed the 1-2 bottles consumed were not up t...

This is ridiculous, but I am sure they will make plenty of money from this move. I won't be rushing out to buy Penfolds international gear. Come to think of it, I won't be buying any Penfolds wine any time soon. #noterrior#serialblenders

Re: Treasury Wine Estates sells Baileys

This is great news in my mind. TWE are all about volume, and global brands. Baileys did not fit this model. Casella are family owned, and not listed on the ASX, thus they are more likely to take a long term view of the Baileys business.

Interesting how most of the responses are about this pinot noir tasting ripe. Doing a bit of research and comparing the alcohol levels in the Curly Flay estate pinot noir with other top line Aussie pinot noirs, they are quite moderate over the last couple of vintages - 13.6% for the 2014, 13.6% for ...

I really like them. I think they are in the top echelon of Aussie pinot noir.

I know Halliday and Wine Front are big fans of their pinot noir too. I tend to respect Wine Front's scores more than Halliday's though.

Robert Parker fruit bombs from Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale.I don't enjoy these wines now as they are too oaky and don't match well with food. Far too alcoholic too.

My go to wine for summer along with white (chardonnay and riesling).

Rose is a great option for someone who loves red wine. Very refreshing, matches with a lot of foods, and has that flavour we all love in red wine.

I went to the TWE tasting last night. As I was on the way to concert afterwards, I didn't take notes but my overall impression was the best wines in their portfolio remain the Seppelts with the Drumbourg riesling 2016 shaping up to be a stellar wine along with the St Peters 2014. On the Leo Buring ...

Agree with most of the sentiments here. Penfolds wines do not represent good value for money, and there are far better wines for a lower cost. I have not bought any Penfolds wines since the 1998 vintage.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate White Label Shiraz 2008 This is drinking beautifully right now, but still has a few more years of development left. The colour looks primary, and that is how it drinks to a large degree. Taste more primary than secondary. Plums and forest fruits on the nose. The palate adds ...
