Re: Getting into French wine

When I lived in Adelaide, I drank Aussie wines... plenty to keep you interested & occupied. And, cheaper (= value!) I remember I've only ever drank 3 French wines there: E. Guigal, MonRedon & Delas Frere (all Cotes du Rhone) Now, living in Singapore, I still drink a lot of Aussie wines, with...

Re: 'Cheap' French wines in Singapore?

Hi, it's been a while since I've been to this forum... and I think I might be able to share a little on this topic, since I've been living and buying wines in Singapore for last 2+ years. Wine drinking is still quite French-centric in Singapore, and Aussie wines are 2nd most popular here. Typically,...

Re: Help Me Cure My Secret Wine Shame!

+1 from me for Voyager Chardonnay - I've not been a great Chardy fan, but I really like the Voyager Chard, just great fruit with nice subtle oak. If you don't mind spending more to find that elusive chardy you'd like, try: Leeuwin Estate Art Series, Oakridge 864, Penfolds Bin 08A and/or 09A Personal...

Re: Recommend a rose made from Grenache

The 2009 'Rose of Virginia' is definitely a fine wine!
Although lost it's freshness, it's still enjoyable. A good one to whet the appetite.
Perhaps needs a few more years bottle age for additional complexity & interest?

Notes in the Grenache Day thread...

Hi all, The Grenache Day wine dinner at Spring Court (Chinese) Restaurant, in Singapore's Chinatown area, was a blast! We had had good fun, good wines, good food & excellent service. 3 Singaporeans, 3 Australian, 2 English & 1 Malaysian. A lot of the conversation was wine-centric, which is a...

Can't find a Pannell.... both Turkey Flat Rose & 'Rose of Virginia' are avail at my fav bottle shop.

Oh well, just buy one and hopefully still fresh...

Yes, I was thinking of 'Rose of Virginia' & Turkey Flat's rose too. Was just wondering if there were other choices. Both the above & SC Pannell's rose can be found in bottle shops here. Waiters Friend - I actually like Cabernet-based rose more than Grenache-based ones, but rose these days te...

Recommend a rose made from Grenache

Hi, This Friday is International Grenache Day (m), and a group of us here in Singapore are having a Chinese dinner with a few bottles of grenache / grenache-dominant wines. I'm thinking of starting with a Grenache rose - any recommendations? Would like a fruity but not "jubey" style. Feel ...

Another vote here for the Mt Horrocks Cordon Cut Riesling - it rawks! Kellermeister Wines (Lyndoch, Barossa) does a 'faux' Eiswein, using Traminer grapes, and re-create the freezing conditions for natural Eiswein in large cooling rooms. The juice pressed from the frozen berries are made into nice sw...

Sounds good.
Well, if you're in town between now and 04-Sep, you might want to head to Tanglin Mall for a Wine Fair organised by 'The Local Nose'. You can Google for details, but they have a good number of wines for tasting... :)

Have fun!

Re: Taking wine to Singapore?

I think if you're travelling as a party, they might allow the total litres of wine brought in to be pooled - but don't quote me on that. Many people I know have far exceeded the amount of wines they brought in by using particular tricks, which I don't feel that I should share in such an open context...

I've only had the '99 and it was stunning with plenty of life left. I have one bottle left and am saving it for a special occasion, that is how good it is. The 1st 2 sub-$20 pinot that came to mind are those suggested by calm - De Bortoli Windy Peak & Gulf Station - quaffable & very good pricing. The Gulf Station is worth a try, while the Windy Peak is more cherry/strawberry juice + alcohol... Another choice could be Mike Press 09 Pinot Noir......
