MartinE, So I take it you're a big fan? Dr - 307. Yes, in a good year like 98, 01 and 02...They are quite variable and the 03 for instance was overcooked and quite underwhelming. OTOH a group of us did a pretty extensive 98 shiraz tasting a few years back and the Print was one of the standouts. As ...

Is this what Mitchelton Print and Central Victorian Shiraz is about? Maybe I drank it too young. I still have a 2002 which they say is the best of the lot. Anyone??? No...Yes...Yes The best Print Shiraz yet is the most Rhône-like and presents the deepest and most interesting expression of variet...

99 Charlie Melton Laura Shiraz Interesting wine from the Flinders Ranges...Unusual to get a cool climate shiraz (elegant pepper and light spice) from Charlie. This wine was very closed and tannin dominated on release but it had some good balance and acid when I tried it at cellar door in 2001 so I ...

Good enough for me Billmac. I prefer the 2004 vintage in most wines anyway from that way so I'll take the 4 my merchant has aside for me. 1 for tonights game and 3 for later on once they're truly ready. Cheers, Dr - 307. But aren't the swing top bottles 500ml? 250Ml surely is just a starter.

473ml to be precise and I didn't say I used them...It's just a good idea if you're silly enough to only have one or two glasses !!

I am right 375ml format at present. My wife is pregnant and I find 750ml bottles midweek a bit much. Screwcaps are handy but really would like to see more quality in the 375ml range. Try empty swing-top Grolsch bottles. M. First empty one (yum) then fill it with wine. Works for me! Yup...Me too!! )...

Yarra Valley fruit, from Oakridge Vineyards in Coldstream. Bordering the Great Dividing Range. Still a few valleys left for enterprising entrepreneurs! 2000 Wendouree Shiraz Mataro: Very dark to almost inky crimson/brick. Chocolaty/earthy nose with briary fruit and a hint of black pepper and barnyard; tart/sweet mulberry/raspberry fruit on the well-balanced palate, finishing fine and tannic. This was a very good outcome for the vintage, and the be...

Shottesbrooke Eliza Shiraz Dead, by my reckoning. I agree unfortunately (still three in the cellar) and here's a note Brian did in 05 M. RB 10/05 This wine was stunning at release and until about 2 years ago seemed to be developing nicely, then it took a fairly sudden turn downhill. I kept one to s...

I've tried it... didn't really like it a whole lot. Not as full bodied or as structured as I like my tempranillo. TN 05 Tim Adams Reserve Tempranillo

I'm a long-term fan of Tim's wines including the Aberfeldy shiraz, riesling and the VFM Fergus Grenache/Cabernet blend and have lately enjoyed the Pinot Gris, one of the few Aus PGs that I like, so I was interested to try the new release Tempranillo. This wine comes from vines planted in 2000 and is...

Re: Its Sunday again ... time for your weekly drinkin' repor

Hi Good Peoples, My highlight of the week was a Rolf Binder (Veritas) 2001 Hanisch Shiraz The first from a six pack, I was anxious to see how this wine was coming along, as the 98 did not develop particularly well. The bouquet is attractive and leads one to believe this will be a high quality drop....

I agree with Brian, 96, 98 and 00 were just horrible crap. The 01 and 02 were very good, and compared strongly at the Coonawarra roadshows where I tasted them. THings seem to have turned around since Paul Gordon has been there. But in a crowded cellar, I dont have room for them anymore. Totally agr...

I'm in for a 3rd positive vote, happy to have a 6-pack in my cellar, but I think it'll stay there a whole lot longer than Steve's. Thanks for the comments. I bit the bullet and bought one. My local had the 03 for $43. They didn't have any 04 out the back, I did ask. The local BWS has the 04 for $64. I rarely go over low $20's due to budgetary constraints but though this would be worth splashing out on. On the plus side I know ...

Agreed, the Chianti glass is a pretty good allrounder if you must choose only one glass, altohugh its not the greatest success with pinot noir. I use the vinum shiraz glass (well, a copy in the same shape) as an all rounder, same shape but bigger. Having said that, rieslings get lost in a glass thi...

Re: 01 Hanisch

Lovely wine, could be regarded as a touch simple, but well balanced - good structure - tannin, fruit & alcohol in equal parts (harmonious) - very much the Barossa shiraz - without tripping over the 01 ripeness problem. Licorice, plum, chocolate & spice - controlled oak and just easy to cons...
