Re: Yarra Valley wineries
If you are focusing on Chardonnay and Pinot then I would go: Oakridge Coldstream Hills Giant steps Mac Forbes (at the grace burn wine room) Along with Hoddles Creek (who don't have a cellar door) I would consider them the best Chardonnay and Pinot producers in Yarra, especially for price (Mount Mary...

Re: Tyrrell's Private Bin Club May 2013 Red Release
I did not care until I realised that I had been debited for a red tasting dozen - I think I misconstrued the email I received as meaning I would not be obliged to take up the red tasting dozen given there were no 2012 Hunter reds and my standing order had been rolled for the 2013 order. Hopefully I ...

There is a Paringa (i.e. not Paringa Estate) from McLaren Vale. I think it may be exported more than it is sold here (the only time I have seen it sold in Aus is from a wine retailer with dubious marketing techniques)

Re: Half Bottles of Chardonnay?
Shaw & Smith do the M3 Chardonnay in half bottles (and also the Shiraz). If you do a bit of Googling it seems that you can find some from Xanadu, Kooyong Estate, Moorooduc Estate and possibly even Moss Wood and Mount Mary as well. In some cases though it seems the half bottle is only a few dolla...

Re: Can anyone answer my question please
I would have to respectfully disagree with the comment that a wine should decrease in value as it gets older. Wine changes in the bottle, one of its endearing characteristics of course. You cannot create bottle age it can only be acquired over time, hence it should actually increase in value to acc...

Re: Can anyone answer my question please
One issue with the question is the implication that older wine is better than new wine (something which may be for true for indiviuals taste in wine or particular wines but not something that is necessarily true of the market). I thought, as a generalisation, that the market normally reflects that w...

Re: Chardonnay with no melolactic fermentation
All of them. It's a rare chardie that has any melo in them, a full malo is almost non-existant much to my sadness. Graham I think Bannockburn is now 100%. In my searches I also noted that a Stella Bella was 100%. I am not sure on Stonier KBS and Tapanappa Tiers but I assume it is quite high in both...

Re: Chardonnay with no melolactic fermentation
Yabby Lake - I am working my way through what I think are good examples that I think may be no malo and looking at the winemaking on their websites confirming that is the case. It is somewhat interesting to read the winemaking notes when looking at this - e.g. the Vasse Felix Heytesbury 2010 notes &...

Went to the Sydney one. Impressions were: Majella 2010s were also looking very good (best winery of the night for me - although I am generally a fan of Majella). The Cab Sav, Shiraz and Merlot were just about my favourite of each of those varieties of the night. Balnaves Tally 2009 and Petaluma Coon...

Re: Melbourne Offline & Mornington Peninsula
Moorooduc Estate is the only Cabernet I can think of particularly enjoying (and actually buying) - they have grafted over that though - 2006 might have been the last version. Willow Creek make a couple and I think Merricks Estate still make them (I think they normally sell them as older vintages). A...

So sad - this thread was going so well. I struggle to come up with some "baby" wines for this line which does raise a point for how I perceive their value. For most of the range I can think of quite a few wines that I would rather buy at the same price (although not easy to beat when deepl...

Hi Phil, Was the Lovedale the 07? Did you notice any spritz in the wine? I did at the RAS tasting last week, and I shook the bottle, and it looked like a bottle of lemonade. I tasted a few Lovedale semillons at the RAS tasting as well (07,09,10) - I actually opened the 2010 bottle (first to taste i...

On the general comment on wine shows - I would broadly agree with Polymer. Running off memory from going through the show list, going to the tasting and comparing to the Langton's classification I have about 26 of the 123 Langton's wines appearing at the show (about 20%). I can't think of many tasti...

Haven't been there for ages but other ones I went to were Mcivor Estate (near shelmerdine), Munari and Downing Estate. All pretty good. I was not very impressed when they told me the expected price on some wines I was selling would be $15 to $25 and then one of the wines was given a range of $10 to $20 - i.e. I would now have to sell if somebody bid at $10. It was particularly unimpressive given the wine actually sold for greater th...

True some did not adhere to the 4 bottle limit (most did though). I assumed it was so that you sampled wines from all to most wineries (other than just sticking to a handful of favourites). Of course I would prefer more options.

anyone do the SYD gig? Highlights? I think this clearly proves that there is no such thing as global warming - can't get much more conclusive than this!
I am also amazed to see that in 2005 and 2006 you travelled back in time to switch it off - surely this power could be better used though.

This may sound a bit harsh (and maybe is) but I feel like some people are living in the past when it comes to Chardonnay (and get the sense that some make comments about "old style" Chardonnay which I am not convinced they know anything about) - a past that I must admit I did not really se...
