Davo get a grip. I am not a clinician, have never claimed to be. What I am is a pretty smart guy who has sat through more seminars, symposia, grand rounds etc on rheumatology than I care to remember. Does that give me the right to diagnose and prescribe? No. Does it mean that I know what the gold s...

Yeah - The drugs for this have been used for nearly 200 years. It is called colchicine and the one I use is branded Lengout. So you need to take Lengout daily to prevent gout from recurring? My uric acid readings for the past decade have exceeded the reference. However my latest 2 years reading are...

Allan, Just thinking, the main difference between red and white wine making is the fermentation on skin in reds. Now if red grapes are all mouldy (noble rot) then it would most probably smell and taste of moulds. That will turn even red lovers off I suppose. Therefore no red stickies. QED. I leave i...

Botrytis Red
I have been wondering why there is no botrytis Red. Not that I can see anyway. There is botrytis riesling and semillon. I am sure if red grapes are left long enough on vines they will "rot".
So what is the reason for not making botrytis red?

My birthday yesterday and my son slipped me a bottle of the current vintage (05?) as a present. Very nice indeed but what the retailer was doing selling booze to a 15 month old child is beyond me. Anyhow, any comments on how long I should tuck this away for? You mean "15 years old"?. It w...

A bloke I used to live next door to made fruit wines - had a nice little traditional basket press. He bought a heap of lychees a day or two after they'd been sprayed so the end of the withholding period was a week or so away. He reckoned he and his wife spent just about a full day washing those lyc...

Re: Are grapes washed or rinsed
Was watching the ABC program on the Draytons last Monday when my better half asked out loud whether the harvested grapes are washed or rinsed before continuing on the winemaking process. I replied NO as I am sure there is no such step as I recalled in winemaking. Am I correct? Is there any possibil...

A happy ending. The carton was wrongly delivered. The recipient kindly return the wine to it's rightful owner. All the good and ingenious advice provided (like under stairs and discreet places) would not help if it's delivered to another address. I opened the Lazy Ballerina 2004 shiraz last night an...
