Re: Weekend Drinkies Dec 11-12

Wife's family Christmas Party on Sunday at our house. A couple of beers and some wine was well received by all. Tasting notes are very basic due to the .... ahem .... condition of the taster at the time. 1999 Johns Blend Margarettes Shiraz - Good wine, red fruit flavours. 2008 Cambian Rock Shiraz -...

Re: Cellar Management Software

I have been using Brian Handreck's Cellar Management system for many years - it is a great program, does everything that I need. He can be contacted at redbigot@yahoo.com.au - there is a nominal fee, but his support is invaluable - especially if you are as inept at computers as I am!

My preference would be a good Speyside to start and a big Islay to finish - like fine malt bookends for a fine wine dining experience!

2007 CJ Pask Declaration Syrah - decanted for 2 hrs before drinking. Probably a bit young, but showing what I believe really good cellaring potential as it was much more open 2nd night. 2006 Rockford Rifle Range Cab Sauv - What a great soft velvety wine. Pitty it was my last bottle of this vintage....

Re: Advice: favourite savory &/or cool climate shiraz

Value for money would be the 07 Cape Mentelle shiraz - love this wine! Clonakilla produces some good mid range wines - the O'Riada is a good wine and the Hilltops provides some pretty classy cool climate characters for the price. The deBertoli Reserve Syrah can be pretty nice - and if you want to go...

Tried the Blue Pyrenees Estate 08 Cab at the winery a couple of weeks ago - re-tried it twice since. A great quaffer at under $15 from some e-tailers!

One of the best out there that I have tried is the Marius Symposium - I have had the 05 and the 06 over the past few weeks and they are both very good wines. The 06 especially is one of my personal favourites. The Symposium is a 50/50 blend.

Re: TN: Taste of Tasmania 09/10

I thought the Goaty Hill and Home Hill wines were both pretty good, esp the riesling from Goaty Hill and the Pinot from Home Hill. Great fun - mainly drank Boags but (tried the cask ales but they were ones to lay down and avoid!) - and the cover band doing the old 70s and 80s numbers was great. Also...

Re: Why Wine Ratings are Badly Flawed

Perhaps simplifying the descriptors will provide some assistance for the punters. The questions I usually ask are: (for a cheaper wine) Were the grapes ripe when they were picked (rather than over ripe or under ripe), what does it feel like in the mouth, how does it finish and will I be wanting to r...

That defining moment.....

I was reading the post recently about the best bottle of wine ever and got to thinking about the wine I tried that got me hooked in the first place - and set me on the slippery slope to becoming an incurable wine tragic! It was a 21st party back in 1985 where the birthday girl worked for Wolf Blass ...

Hi all, Are any of the other Rockford reds (Rod and Spur, Rifle Range, or Moppa Springs) worthwhile? Or even the whites? All the discussions appears to revolve solely around the Basket Press - seems like the existing Stonewallers don't bother with any of the other ones. I loved the 06 Rifle Range -...

I use the RB Database - simple to use. Which is okay until you have a few mates around, stagger into the cellar, blindly grab a couple of...
