Re: Question One - Petit Verdot

Michael,
Try the Trentham Estate PV, have always found it good. For something a bit different their PV / Tannat is a very interesting wine. Might only be available cd though. Another one from the same region is a Mulcra Estate Reserve PV that always drinks well.
Cheers,
Bob.

Trentham Estate make a very good range of wines and have been heavily involved in the development of quite a few alternative varieties. It's a shame that the controversy over the Albarino has hit as they had geared up to take on the Sauvignon Blanc craze with this variety and hopefully they still wi...

kpeary,

Go to
http://www.garagewine.com.au/garage/Gwi ... eProd_id=3

They are advertising the 2000 Winemakers Reserve Chardonnay from the Barossa for $22 and a McLaren Vale Chardonnay for $28.

I've found the wine specific search engine 'Able Grape' an excellent resource and that is where I found this info.

Cheers,
Bob.

Nice respectable Carmenere from Chile

I have just purchased several bottles of two Colchagua Valley Chilean Carmeneres. One is Arboleda and the other Caliterra. I haven't tried them yet but have been told that they are both quite good, so I am really looking forward to a taste. What got be going on Carmenere was a wine from Amietta Vine...

Over-priced wines

One of the most interesting posts I've seen on this forum for a long time and it must also be a record - 19 posts and we never got off the topic!!!!! I am also at a loss to understand how these so-called 'boutique' wineries sell, what appear to me to be very over-priced wines. But maybe I'm wrong as...

Last Sunday of the financial year...

Lindauer Brut NV , which is a NZ Pinot Noir/Chardonnay/Chenin Blanc. This wine is quite a dry style methode traditionelle, with a pleasant aroma. The palate is crisp, complex and well balanced, with a full flavour and lasting taste. Being so dry, this wine may not be to everyone’s liking. 20...

Oops! forgot to mention the sparkling.
Try the Lindauer Brut Cuvee. I think Dan Murphys has it for about $12.
There I go again mentioning a supplier, might get accused of sp-mming!!!!!

NeilHK, From my point of view you have answered your own question when you mentioned the Waterwheel Shiraz. At $15 it is one of the best available. I have just taken a punt on a Quarisa Johnny Q Shiraz, but have not opened a bottle yet, so can't comment. It did get a good write up from a source that...

Scanlon,
One CD we enjoyed on a Clare trip a while ago was Claymore Wines on Main North Rd. Leasingham. Particularly liked the Nirvana Shiraz, which is a big mouth-filling wine. They make a pretty good Shiraz Viognier and for something a bit lighter, try their Rose.
Have a great time.

Zinfandels

I have been offered some US Zinfandels, all from Seghesio Wines in California, but from different vineyards and vintages. I've only tried a few aussie Zins, Cape Mentelle 2001 and a 2002 Kangarilla Road, both of which I enjoyed quite a lot. VinoDiversity lists about 60 Australian Zin producers and I...

GRB, thanks for the comment on the Warrabilla Durif. I looked it up and you are right, it is from ‘the big end of town’. I notice that the 2006 Limited Release Parola Durif is 18% alc but the comments from the reviewer were that ii was a well balanced wine. I think the wine maker refers...

More on alternative styles

For some time I have been interested in many of the alternative wine styles and I would be interested to hear what others have to say on this subject. Let me be a bit more specific. For the purposes of this post, allow me to categorize Australian wines into three tiers, whilst it’s not very s...

Thoughts on blends

Would be interested in hearing peoples views on blends, particularly reds. I have tried Hollick Cab/Mer, Petaluma Cab/Mer, Bleasdale Frank Potts 01 & 02 and have 03 and 04 in the cellar, Metala as well as others.
What is the view on blends and are there any others could recommend?
