Re: Sydney Offline 21st November at Rocket

Many apologies, but I have to pull out because of a work meeting from which I can't absent myself. Bugger! Have a great night.

Put me down. Rocket would suit. Just thinking out loud, a 96 or 98 389. A 91 407 is there but I can hear some tut tutting. Will go for a dig.

Re: Contextual influence on the appreciation of wine

Context has an enormous impact. I think we all recognise that, but I suspect we tend to underestimate its importance. When you consider it is estimated that well under 50% of what we "see" comes from direct information produced by light falling on our retina one starts to realise that perc...

1993 Wendouree Shiraz Mataro, Clare Valley: Medium to dark brick red. The most complex and complete of the wines tonight, smoky and sweet, cherries with caramel, melted liquorice, herbs and cocoa, just a touch metallic but nothing disturbing. The palate’s soft and soupy, the sweet choc-cherr...

Re: TN: 25th Wedding Anniversary Wines

Congratulations David. Certainly something to be celebrated. Our 25th anniversary is this year too. Not wedding anniversary as we're still waiting on Julia to change the laws on that one but our anniversary never the less. Lookes like some lovely wine there. I'll be going for a bit of an 86 theme b...

Happy Anniversary, David. You were married 8 days before me! I am planning a quiet night with the other half for our 25th - we will be in Noosa and only one out of three sons will be there. I am looking at 1986- Bin 28 or Bin 707. I am leaning toward the former because I think the latter will hang o...

Re: A tale of two wines

I have long been of the opinion that strict temperature control is unnecessary because I have only ever had a passive cellar, and for every wine that I have opened too late (too developed), I seem to drink at least a hundred that are either too young or "in the zone". So for me, strict tem...

Re: 1983 Lindemans St George question

You may get a pleasant surprise. I had a 1989 Wynns Black Label a few months ago that was drinking quite nicely - a big surprise to me . Not a great wine, but still quite enjoyable. A great effort from a poor year. Pretty sure there was no John Riddoch that year. Marketers always say that boosts the...

2007 Disgorged Rockford Black Shiraz: We drink this wine every year at Christmas and other special occasions. To be honest, not being a huge lover of sparkling reds (the Missus just loves them!), I am not sure if time in the cellar does them any good. As good an example of the style that I have had...

Shiraz week.... Rockford Basket Press Shiraz 1999 I have had a couple of bottles of this that have been just ok. Not obvious TCA, but you wonder. This was excellent and drinking now for mine. Taylors Cab Sauvignon 2004 Good. Maybe another couple of years to soften the tannins a tad.
Wolf Blass Gold Label Barossa Shiraz 2003 Very good. Not focused but a lot of flavour.
Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay 2009 A reliable cheap Chardonnay- keeps the boss happy.

Re: Rosemount Show Reserve Range - What are they doing?

My take on this is that the Show Reserve label has already been significantly eroded over the past ten years, both in wine quality and appearance. The last Show Reserve Cabernet I bought for ...

No, Mahmoud, they are not the 'square' bottles - that is the Diamond Label and I don't drink those either. I have had a bottle here and there of the Diamond label shiraz over the years. In bad years it is good, in good years it is very good- a quaffer but not a bad one. I understand it is an enormo...
