The 1996 was a wonderful wine a couple of years ago. I always serve them fridge cold and let it warm up in the glass is necessary.

Pokolbin Estate Reserve Shiraz 2007 – In the zone. Generous. Oak evident. Earth. Leather. Charred cherries. Still tannic. Delicious. Should continue aging effortlessly. 92 Paul Bara Special Club 2014 – Is it the 2014 vintage or the house style? Has definite similarities with the 2014 grand millesime...

Best red was a new one for me - the 2021 Agricola Flaxman Shiraz. Made by Callum Powell, son of the famous Dave, this is from the Eden Valley. Nose was stemmy and there was some sour cherry but at the core was wonderful coiled red fruit. Lovely intensity which gives the impression of size, but it’s...

I found this wine too porty for my tastes and sold my remaining bottles of it. I was also not impressed by the 2010 recently either.

I picked up some stuff at auction: 83, 2*90, 2*93 Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon 1*76 Yalumba Riesling 1*09 Gonon St Joseph + a few bottles bottles of 60’s and 70’s reds from a mixed lot. I like the MW system for bidding, but I really don’t understand why they don’t photograph all the wines. The...

Re: TN: Rosemount Balmoral Syrah 2012
I meant exactly what I wrote. If you hang out on wine forums and are offended at a reference to Balmoral at $20 being quaffing standards, in the context of expectations below, so be it. That’s reverse snobbery to me. “Will Balmoral become an international benchmark? I honestly think so. Balmoral lo...

I was also privileged enough to enjoy Standish 'The Standish' Shiraz 2018 and Sami Odi Hoffmann Dallwitz Shiraz 2019 side by side over a couple of days. Both are wines that offered me maximum pleasure. The Standish seems to be an archetypal Barossan shiraz but turn up the dial on intensity/length/fl...

2010 Hurley Loadstone. In my mind, the pinnacle Pinot producer on the Peninsula. Paradigm and Moorooduc right up there as well. Served blind you would not have picked it as 11 yo. Fresh, alive, complex, structured and that sweet/feminine middle palate Loadstone has. Sits so well between the Garamon...

I would tell the retailer my experience and make it clear that I expect them to replace or refund, and be prepared to send back the rest of the bottle contents.

TN: Eperosa 1896 Magnolia Shiraz 2018
Dense colour, purple at rim very quickly becoming impenetrable. Very complex nose, reminiscent of 'natural' wine at first, then with air lots of graphite, spice, herbs, twigs, overlaying rich blueberry/blackcurrant. In the mouth the wine is built around its structure, it has powerful, fine, bitter c...

Grant Burge Filsell 2016 Barossa Shiraz : Very dark dense purple still. A year ago this seemed to be in a bit of dumb spot, now the middle is still a bit overtly heavy with oak and tannin extraction but the back end is starting to fan out with intense fruit and spice, medium/long finish. Would say ...

Tintara Reserve Port ?1968? - Presumably Hardy's, label was torn off though so not much info on this. Imperial measure on bottle. Mostly brown but red in the middle. Drinking slightly past its peak but very delicious with chocolate, spice, herbaceousness, and liquorice to close out on the medium lo...

Seppelt St Peters Shiraz 2006 : A disappointing wine for the label. Do not think it is in balance, drying out tannins, a bit bony, already with quite a touch of the leathery/acidic/anonymous old wine complex. On the upside showing remnants of dense fruit overlaid with plenty of spice and is very lo...

Rockford Rifle Range Cabernet 2014 - From 375ml. A bottle last year was a bit disjoint and overripe seeming. This one has hit its straps, still a very juicy wine verging on prune/dried fruits. Chocolate. But starting to develop real interest and complexity so I reckon that you can start drinking yo...

Wine # 5 - 2006 Isole e Olena Cepparello Not happy with this. Screwcap which is a VERY modern closure for a 2006 Italian and the reason I bought it. It SHOULD have been much better than this, but it wasnt. Tired and lacking fruit. Oak dominated and overpowered the wine. Wasn't cooked or faulty, jus...

Re: The Aussie Fortified Thread…
It would be sad if it were a young tawny. I think it's more likely that it is a 2019 vintage port style. Can't quite bring myself to pay the same amount for a wine that used to be aged to perfection (will go with the Chambers 2004 Vintage Port instead). Although I never thought the strategy with the...

Apologies about the formatting but I was watching some ports at a recent auction that didn't sell and these are the reserve prices. Mostly Tawny as I guess the VP's all sold. Does Tawny change with age or not? Everything I read says it doesn't but surely 50 years must do something. Please delete if...

We're arguably the reverse, in getting this, but no other champagnes have excited us in the same way, with only a small few getting a begrudging "it's ok". We've had such poor value out of champagne, that we maybe buy / drink a bottle every two years or so. 5 bottles sit in the cellar, of...

Seppelts Probably a few others Cheers Craig I still have a few bottles of the 1996 Dorrien Vineyard Cabernet and the 1996 Great Western Vineyard Shiraz, and have really enjoyed the ones that I have had already. Surely the solution is to sell double magnums or something.
