I am reading the latest issue of the UK magazine Wine International, and they review the 2 new Penfolds en primeur reds, the 04 Block 42 and Bin 60a.
The Block 42 Cabernet gets 97 points, drink 2005-2030 and
the Bin 60a gets 98 points, drink 2008-2035.
Thats great, but the retail prices quoted are a bit sad for us Aussies!
108.25 UK pounds each. That works out to be about $252 each. A far cry from what I believe we have to pay, which is $449.

Bruce,
One major reason for the pricing disparity is a small insignificant little thing called tax.
The balance is cause they can.

Hopefully, like the 1998 Grange, it will not sell over there, so in a few months wholesalers will be shipping it all back to Australian shores and flood the market, thereby reducing the price to under half of what it initially retails for.

Torb,
Do you know the rate of tax for wine here, and the UK? I have been searching google for the UK rates, but cant find them.

Further to the Australian prices for these wines, I have just got my allocation, and the price is $350, not $449, which puts back in some sort of balance.

Will Auswine be doing them? If so, what range?
If not, Can you help Brucer? $350 I can damage the plastic but, not $440+

How do the special Bins 90A,920, and these 2 compare to a great modern Grange such as 96/98.
Can they match the power and concentration?

Guest,
I had the 90a alongside the 90 Grange about 3 years ago and preferred the former. Greater concentration, complexity etc. Both were outstanding wines, but the Bin 90a was a tad better.
Cheers

Read first news today of their release here in Canada as futures with delivery in 2007. Both priced at $330Can. ($305 Au). with option of either cork or screwcap. Usual procedure for futures with LCBO is 3 bottle minimum, 50% down now and balance on delivery. Might order 3 with a friend and enjoy together down the road.
