TN: Au Bon Climat Chardonnay 2019

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

I don't get to taste many Californian chardonnays. This one from Santa Barbera County is medium to full yellow in colour, and quite clear in the glass.

A buttery nose balanced by citrus (lemon, lime) and stone fruits (yellow peach, nectarine). There's also a moderate dollop of vanillan oak.

The palate is soft and creamy with slight tannic grip. There's more citrus (add grapefruit to the mix) alongside the stone fruits, and acid is merely supportive, not assertive. I would guess this has had full malo. It's fairly big and round and finishes reasonably long and slightly astringent.

It's not Australian in style, but not Burgundian either - somewhere in between perhaps. Probably at its best now.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
