Nice work... Chets is creeping up in price, but I’d like to get some more of the 12. I’m hearing great things about the 13.

Succumbed once again, this time to a couple of bottles of 2011 Hexamer Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Riesling Spatlese (Nahe, Germany). I'm not supposed to buy any more wines but they met with both of my escape clauses, them being an older vintage and on sale. Sigh.

Riesling Spatlese or Kabinett doesn't count. It's not like they won't get drunk when the weather warms up

Does that mean I can go ahead and indiscriminately buy German riesling without fear of overstepping my self imposed buying restraints?

The wine market has collapsed in China according to my sources. And I'm guessing i HKG too.

So I've stopped buying and awaiting inevitable sales- but retailers holding out.

Is this related to Coronavirus or is something else going on?

Hard to find any tasting notes on the 16 Sordo wines. I believe Gary from Winefront will be publishing reviews Monday evening but curious that I can't find any tasting notes elsewhere.

Tasting notes are available from the importer, David Ridge. Also a couple TNs from Walter Speller.

Many 16 Barbarescos were same price and little hype. I'm pretty sure Gaja's 16's SSL and ST still same price as release.

There's a lot of Barolo and Barbaresco easily available on the market- and there's a lot more Cru bottlings and plantings than a decade ago- so coupled with troubled traditional and emerging markets hopefully we avoid the BS vintage hyperbole. :D

Many producers are frequently not easily available in Australia. Demand often outstrips supply. If you're not quick enough, you just miss out, and bottle limits may also apply. More so if the wines are highly revered by local wine critics such as The Wine Front. Our currency has also fallen of late, so there will be pressure to increase prices, even if just slightly. 2016 vintage yields above average, so hopefully that increases availability down under. It's still early days for the 2016 Barolo releases, so we'll see what happens.

Sorry Gavin

When I first moved here my wife decided I needed to get into drinking ‘normal’ wine, so signed up for something called Wine Selectors. Seems to specialise in selling on overpriced stock, or off vintages. Had a few decent wines , but I managed to get her to stop and told her that if she ever wanted to buy me something, then order from Auswine. All fixed I thought until these arrived yesterday

3 * Tyrrells ‘14 Vat 47 Chardonnay
3 * Tyrrells ‘18 HVD Chardonnay
3 * Cromy ‘12 Zadar Chardonnay

I don’t actually mind getting the Tyrrells, although I’d rather it was their Semillon, but I wonder why someone still is selling the ‘14. The Cromy, down on the site at $75 a bottle, is an obviously poor buy in my eyes. $600 for the lot.

Big difference of course if that she was cold called and they got her at just the right moment. Have to smile and say thanks, but I have yet again given her the Smink to this site so that she can check. Maybe I should just send Gavin her number.
This is my church, this is where I heal my hurts.
For tonight, God is the Auswine Wine Forum

spot on, Jamie. I'm getting increasingly "desperate" emails from e-tailers in HK offering all sorts of stuff, including hard-to-get Burgundy. Covid-19 combined with the unpopular 17 and 18 (EP) Burgundy vintages are really biting deep with the HK wine merchants.
the Chinese market might well be dead for a decade after Covid..... every business owner I know (including me :( ) is losing large amounts of hard-earned by paying staff to isolate at home, and trying to sell stuff to totally dead markets. Situation in China is becoming increasingly dire.
will be fascinating to see what happens in France with (1) Trump's threatened measures, we have not heard the last of that, and (2) the catastrophic almost total loss of the Chinese market.

I'm tipping the complete collapse of the Bordeaux 2019 EP campaign, as in, there may not even be one!!!
