Wow, it's been years since I have visited/posted on this forum!
Life just got busy, and so I consolidated my wine forum activity amongst other things. Looks like Auswine has had an awesome resurgence of late! Congrats all!

Anyways, Dave has reeled me back in for this one, and I just realised this is only a week away, and I had almost forgotten about it!
I see you've listed the 79 Borgogno for me, but that's Dave's 2nd bottle...
Put me down for:
- 1964 Mascarello Barolo (sorry, don't know exactly which one... when I have time, I'll pull from cellar and update...)
- 1969 Gaja Barbaresco

and a 2004 Gaja Barbaresco as a backup...

Cheers,

monghead

Cheers

We have two menu options for dinner. obviously we would opt for the BYO option.

Boy’s Lunch 1 (available for dinner)
$80 per person (food only)
$85 per person (food & BYO)
*1 price point to apply to the entire group
*Not just for the boys and available for dinner

To Share
Flat bread, hummus, sumac
Wagyu bresaola, figs, burrata (gf)
Salt cod brandade, charred miche, watercress )
Salt & pepper school prawns, yuzu mayo
Charcuterie plate (gf)
Spatchcock, grapes, walnut, sherry (gf)
Spiced lamb shoulder, yoghurt, mint (gf)
Sides
Green salad and shoestring fries (gf)

Boy’s Lunch 2
$90 per person (food & glass Tawny only)
$95 per person (food, glass Tawny & BYO)
*1 price point to apply to the entire group
*Not just for the boys and available for dinner

Cheese and accompaniments with a Glass of Pennyweight Tawny

I suggest we go for the second option as it has cheese. I have also asked if the restaurant can include a mushroom risotto. the restaurant has come back and said yes for an extra $10. As we are doing reds, i would suggest the extra risotto is worth additional charge and will go well with the wines. this would bring it up to $105 in all. is everyone happy with that?

ideally i need to send in the form today and put up my credit card for the deposit. a show of a few will be enough to lock down the option.

One option could be to substitute the prawns dish with the mushroom risotto . Much better fit with the nebs.

Nice one monghead, you're an ideas man.

Flat bread, hummus, sumac
Charcuterie plate (gf)
mushroom risotto (maybe too much?)
whole roasted suckling pig :D
Green salad and shoestring fries (gf)
Cheese and accompaniments
BYO

ok, consensus seems to be that we pick up the risotto which I believe is essential with a piedmont theme. i will finalise the booking and happy to ask about the pig though i think the shoulder of lamb which i have had a couple of times is a great alternative.

see you all there.

Wonderful to see such a great mix of fully mature, middle aged and maturing wines. No guarantees with older wines, but when aged nebbiolo is on form, it can be utterly memorable.

Best wishes from afar - hope it's a great night.

regards
Ian

p.s. I'm especially interested in how the Produttoro Montestefano is, as I have a bottle of that still snoozing in the cellar.

Do they have a kosher, vegetarian, gluten intolerant option?

Just kidding, it all sounds great Mark.
I love risotto too

Sounds good.

Put me down for Prunotto Barolo 'Bussia' 2008 (yeah, I don't mind young Barolo so much - though this has a rep for being more accessible when young).

Yes, lots of traditional styled producers represented (infact, the Prunotto and Spinetta may be the only more modern styles in the line-up - very unlike me - though looking forward to seeing how it all pans out!)

My wines will be Vecchie Vigne Sori' Paitin Barbaresco 2004, and a young Barolo (2007) from Podere Ruggeri Corsini San Pietro.

Btw, what time on Wednesday night?

A small suggestion.

The only disappointing feature of my last meal at Larder were the wine glasses. I know many people bring their own but whilst it is part of the Otto group, we sadly don't have access to the nice glasses next door. Whilst the glasses are no expresso glasses and do have stems, they are very tiny. Best to think about bringing your own.

Apparently there are also no decanters.

I'll have my usual suitcase full of crap. Although I'm bringing 6 zaltos I may want to have four of them as I'd like to sit on them being barolo. Will have about 3-4 decanters/strainers/Durand etc, etc.

And from memory the table seating is very 'intimate' so if you bring Zalto Burgs you'll have half the table taken up.
