March 2011 - What have you been buying

Ok I will start the ball rolling. We all know gold medals, icons, 99/100s are one thing but what we actually open the wallet for is probably the biggest accolade (or it could be just a sign of insanity??)

6 x 2009 Collector Marked Tree Shiraz. I've read nothing but good things about this wine.
2 x 2008 Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz. I don't normally buy this but what the hell at the stupid prices the big chains are offering them at.
4 x 2009 Penfolds Bin 138 GSM. As above.

3x 2008 Penfolds Bin 407
3x 2008 Penfolds Bin 389

Couldn't resist the lure of the 'free' magnum. Of course though I had to pay a bit more given the restrictions on where you need to purchase from in order to be entitled to the magnum. Hope it is worth it.

Funny though I had recently decided to steer clear of Bin 407 given it seems to have suffered more price creep than the other Bins in recent years. I had decided 'not worth it'. I still have 9 2004's whose future quality I am not particularly hopeful for.

Expensive:
12 x Tyrrell's 2005 Belfor Semillon (mentioned in another thread)
6 x Ten Minutes by Tractor 2009 10X Barrel Fermented Sauvignon Blanc
5 x Ten Minutes by Tractor 2009 10X Pinot Noir
1 x Ten Minutes by Tractor 2008 Wallis Vineyard Pinot Noir
(you guessed, we went out there for lunch)

Cheap:
A mixed three-and-a-half dozen reds and whites (2002 & 2003 vintages) from the run-out place in the Dandenong market. $132 in total - and we haven't tipped one down the sink yet!

Rens, I'm a fan of the Signature. Have you tried this vintage? If so, is it a keeper (10-15 yrs) or a medium-term prospect?

I ask because I'm looking for long-term cellaring prospects from the 06 vintage

BTW does anyone know some other wines from this vintage for $40-50 that will go 15+ years?

Cheers,
Tony

Hi Tony
I've tried it and it is a good Signature. Will do 10-15 easy.
Other 2006's I have in my cellar that will get 10-15 years easy at round the $50 are:
Bin 389 (Big chains will probably re-release this later this year)
Dead Arm
Any of the Greenock Creek reds (other than the Cornerstone).

a dozen 2008 389's and 128's
a half dozen 28's and 138's

Discovered when I got home that the 128's were 2008 rather than 2009 and was glad of it after drinking one last nite - huge wine (reckon it'll settle in about 7 or 8 years).
