September - what are you buying

Post by graham »

I'll start the ball rolling.

2 Clonakilla syrah
4 Clonakilla shiraz voignier
12 Chateau Coutet Barsac 2005
Nothing is so effective in keeping one young and full of lust as a discriminating palate thoroughly satisfied at least once a day.

After being away for almost four years I'm not supposed to be buying anything to cellar. Rather, I should be drinking what I have already cellared.

However, I couldn't resist buying the last two bottles of 2000 and 2003 Quinta do Portal VP that I happened to see in a bottle shop, mainly because the price seemed reasonable.

Cheers..............Mahmoud.

Cullen DM 05 - #### it, I want a couple of bottles but have you seen the cellar door price, $100+ even for the 06? Not interested in DM 06.

Won't be long until St Henri rivals Cullen DM price-wise. Mahmoud, I hope you went long on the Cullens(04 &05). St Henri these days is every bit as overpriced and overhyped as Grange.

Not interested in SV.

Onya! Being magnums, they'll probably outlive me! but should be just about drinkable when your darling daughter turns 21yo, seriously!

3* Longhop shiraz 07
2* Yalumba Patchwork shiraz 06
1* Seppelt St Peters 05
3* Felton Rd Riesling 07

& a few single btls of 02 and 04 bordeaux: Ch. Langoa Barton, Ch. Lynch-Bages, Ch. Chasse-Spleen, Ch. Cambon La Pelouse. Trying to address the fact that there's very few french wines in my small cellar - it must be about 50% Aus, 45% NZ, 5% Other. In fact I need to get that Aussie-Kiwi ratuio reversed  The problem is, decent Aussie red seems relatively cheap...
Cheers,
Mike

2x Ad Hoc Wallflower Riesling 2008
2x Teruzzi & Puthod Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2006
2x Ad Hoc Strawman SBS 2008
2x Chateau Belrose Moncaillou 2005
2x Chateau L'Estart 2005
1x Castro Martin Albarino
1x Tahbilk Shiraz 2002
1x Tahbilk Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

All from Dan Murphy's. I have bought a lot of wine in the last two months and have been astounded by the value of the Bordeaux I have bought there, even wines not from the 2005 vintage. Budget only stretches to two or three 'Cru Bourgeios' let alone classification cru's.

Also bought
2x Clonale Chadonnay 2007
4x Clavel Cotes du Rhone 2005
4x Paul Jaboulet 'Les Traverses' Cote du Ventoux 2005
1x Leon Beyer Pinot Gris 2001 (looking forward to this)

From a nearby independent. Now looking for some Meerea Park Shiraz, which may be hard to find in WA.

Passed on the DM 05, went for quantity instead. Mike Press Cab 06 x 12 and Charles Sturt Uni Chard 07 x 12. That's gotta be it for me for a while, (I'm heavily overspent) even though the bargains/highly desirables keep on appearing

1 (more) x Trinity Hill Homage Syrah 2006

I'm very strict on myself with $100+ wines these days. I allow myself 1 a year. I was going to grab a 96 Krug, but the first sighting of this in NZ was accompanied by a $590 price tag. So I grabbed a Homage instead. Not the greatest qpr syrah from the bay but it is damn good.

Overspent or not, couldn't resist 12 x cleanskin (Nashwauk) shiraz 06 for a smidge under $10.50/btl delivered. Hopefully it'll be as good a quaffer as the cases of Mike Press cab 06 and CSU chard 07 also (as above) ordered this month.

Had to tighten the purse strings this month, a trip o/seas is impending.

Bought one each of:

97 Zema Shiraz
94 Zema Cab Sauv (purely to contrast my TN's on the 98 and we're doing a horizontal 94 vintage tasting this week but man was that expensive)
90 Jean Faurois, Clos de Vougeot

Hadn't bought much in September and then started to all of a sudden:

12 * 06 Mike Press Cabernet
6 * 08 Petaluma Hanlin Hill riesling
3 * 06 Kumeu River Mates Chardonnay
3 * 06 Kumeu River village chardonnay
6 * NV Morris Grand Muscat

And what I'm most excited about:
20 Litres of Morris Classic Muscat to accompany seasoned barrel which arrived this morning from Stanton and Killeen. Muscat will go in the barrel tonight (somehow) and I'll be starting my first muscat barrel. Can't wait.
Cheers,
Kris
